SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Barry Bonds became the most prolific home-run hitter in Major League Baseball history Tuesday night, slugging his 756th in front of more than 43,052 hometown fans to pass Henry Aaron. Bonds' record-setting homer came in the fourth inning to give the Giants a 5-4 lead over the Washington Nationals. Bonds hit a 3-2 pitch from Washington's Mike Bacsik deep to center field. The game was delayed by a standing ovation for Bonds, whose late father Bobby was a Giants player, coach and front-office employee.... Bonds also holds the season record for home runs with 73 in 2001.
The 43-year-old Bonds, who has spent 21 years in the majors, had tied Aaron at 755 on Saturday in the Giants' 3-2 loss in San Diego. Aaron's record had stood since 1976, when he retired after 22 years in the majors.

Before 2002 Steroids were ILLEGAL unless prescribed, therefore he broke the law.
Seriously, I dont understand you Bonds groupies. Lots of people try to cheat but none as blatantly and for as long and to such effect as this miscreant. But I guess this is your own special way of "flippin it to the man"! You go, girl!
Thank you. That’s something the casual fan is incapable of understanding.
More than that, baseball, the "national game", is not only a game of statistics, where every achievement can be collated and compared, but it has gone on for over a hundred years.
And now, with one big swoop, Big Head has destroyed the preeminence of ALL those statistics by claiming the biggest one for himself, through dishonesty and cheating
Below is what I posted on another thread.....getting tired of typing. I am not a groupie of Bonds or anyone else, I just appreciate baseball, and talent. I have no interest in flipping off the man (to what man do you refer??), and I’ve been going for almost 60 years now, and will continue to go for as long as I can. Thanks for the suggestion. ;>)
Hey, is that all youve got? Ive hear it all, and stand by what I say. He NEVER flunked a drug test. There have not even been allegations about shooting up. The accusations with him are the clear and other enhancement creams. No one claims he defintely didnt use anything, but that anything he may have used was not illegal at the time. Hence the clean testing.
I may not be a gym rat, but have seen plenty in my day. Your 99lb wimp to hulk reference is ridiculous. the change has been over time, and has something to do with the aging process combined with an intensive work out regime (which a gym rat should appreciate). How many people do you know who have the same physique they had as a 20 year old when they are 43? Wouldnt you expect to see changes over 23 years, especially with 4 hour a day exercise work outs with personal trainers?
His ass may be larger (whos isnt) but I dont accept that as Proof that he is a deranged steroid abuser. Do I think he used steroid based enhancers, could be. But unlike the 300 lb press you mention, maintaining the ability to not only compete, but excel in baseball takes more than strength. Even with possible enhancement, for a 43 year old to not only be hitting homers, but fielding, hitting doubles and singles as well as homers and still stealing bases takes appreciable talent as well. Its easy to take potshots, but Bonds has always been the real deal, not a homerun hitting freak. Steroids may enhance some things, but cant replace talent. Even Hank Aaron hit his last 20 or so homes as a DH, not as a positions player. Should that diminish his accomplishment?
Thank you kind sir! ;>)
Thats just plain ignorant and incorrect . His trainer rots in jail because he's the one that drove the needle into Bonds's ass week after week, and he wont talk to the Feds. Bonds's grand jury testimony, which was sealed and leaked, has him admitting drug use, but saying he didnt know that it was steroids.
Oh, and its not "talent" that youre appreciating, its talent plus drugs.... Whatever, thank goodness your pollyanna view of him is a minority opinion. Finally!
LOL...how convenient for your argument SoldierDad. I call BS.
You're either being deliberately obtuse or you're just a moron.
Gyms today are filled with guys who started working out in their thirties and are gaining muscle mass and size without the use of steroids or HGH.
When I was seventeen I joined the Navy - My first military ID listed my weight at 119 pounds. When I left in 1988, my ID showed 135 pounds. I didn't measure my bodyfat back then, but I would imagine it was around eight percent or so - I was pretty much a rail.
Between the years of leaving the Navy and when I got serious about my body in 2002, I played in a rock and roll band. I worked in bars and for other bands. stayed up late and got little sleep, I smoked, did many different recreational pharmaceuticals, drank my bodyweight in alcohol many times over, and had tons of sex with many women of ill repute. When I decided that it was time to hang up my party hat, I weighed in at a very unhealthy 245 pounds and my bodyfat percentage was around thirty or forty percent although I'm guessing because I took no accurate measurements. My blood pressure was high as was my cholesterol.
This morning when I checked my weight/bodyfat on my electronic scale, it read 195/eleven percent. My blood pressure is a steady 115/60, my cholesterol is thirty points under normal, and I turn forty-one in October.
I've never touched an anabolic steroid.
If I was able to accomplish all that in less than five years while still being able to work eight hours a day in an office, raise two children, and do all the normal "work around the house" what makes you or anyone else think that Barry Bonds couldn't have done it in twenty years as a freaking professional athlete?
I just love the way internet morons bandy about their expertise when it comes to steroids and bodybuilding or any other practice for which they have little or no practical experience. I'd be willing to bet most of those on this thread who insist that Barry was juicing couldn't tell me what a cycle is - but they know that steroids are bad cause they saw it on the tee-vee. They have no idea what glycogen is or how to regulate insulin and what that means to a person who's building muscle. They don't know how to compute their BMR or what relationship that has to daily activity and the types of macronutrients consumed. They have no clue what anabolic steriods really do to your body chemistry...
But everybody just *knows* that Barry was juicing...They *know* this because they *know* his hat or shoe size has increased...LOL Or they compare pictures of him when he was twenty to pictures of him today...
The mind boggles.
Col Sanders
Actually those stats lineup PERFECTLY with his claim.
Hes had 7 seasons in the 40s and 73 in 2001. Other than that, his other 14 seasons have been pretty ordinary. Hes in his 22nd year. Longevity is a huge factor.
Ahhh a good argument on the surface -- except FIVE of the 7 40+ HR season and the 73 HR season came AFTER Barroids turned 35 -- the age at which players performance begins to decline.
Glad that I don’t have a closed mind, that believes everything I read in books that are written by Hack artists out to make a buck and feed the frenzy of Bond haters. Whatever......
As for Greg, he has made his choice, and guess I missed his comments about the shots to Barry’s ass week after week. But then that doesn’t matter since you saw it all yourself.
No, I recognize real talent, and I’ve been watching it for years. Thanks for pointing out how I’m in the minority in my opinions, I was really concerned about that......guess you find it preferable to go with the flow so you can be a member of that moral majority who passes judgment by fiat. I assumw your “Finally” indicates pleasure in being on the “right side of the issue.” Validation seems important to you. Pollyanna will just make her own judgements. I am relieved to know that you are pleased that your point of view has prevailed. Congrats! ;>)
Amen! ;>)
Ok, you got me convinced, genius. What a joy it is to talk to someone with such an open mind! Now you can go back to looking at yourself in the mirror.
I count 3 or the 40+ seasons and the 73 HR season coming after he reached 35YO. And I don’t see much of a pattern after he supposedly started using steroids.
If you don’t assume he used steroids, then the fact that he took good care of himself for all these years could explain his longevity.
I’ve heard steroid use shortens your productive time as it breaks your body apart in various ways during prolonged use. Is that not true?
Funny, I don’t recall EVER saying it didn’t happen or that he was innocent. I don’t recall opening my heart of hearts to you. I may not be a genius, but I do try to keep an open mind. That is why I don’t pass judgement and make assumptions. All I have ever said is that saying all accomplishments are due to enhancements or steroids is naive. That appears to be your entire argument. If it works for you, great. But deciding that all who disagree with you are obviously wrong seems pretty narcisstic. Be happy to lend you my mirror, since I don’t use it other than to brush my teeth and comb my hair.
I feel like I’m in good company....Bay Area’s loss is Nevada’s gain!
It was AWESOME being there! Have so many good Giant memories including many at the Stick! Know what you mean....it will always be PacBell to me too!
Love your sign in name! I’m a big Niner fan too!! ;>)
Enjoy the pictures! where does your nephew sit?
One stoplight sure does sound good, but I’m a City girl...born and raised in San Francisco, and as crazy as it gets here, I can’t see leaving! We need to keep a few conservatives here as tokens, right! ;>)
And that enhanced performance....how? How does that compare to steroids, which adds muscle? Some players drink coffee, which has caffeine, which quickens the pulse. Does that compare to unnatural drugs that allow a player to hit a ball further?
