As the security situation in North Waziristan and the greater Northwest Frontier Province, the Pakistani military launched an assault on two "militant" bases near the Afghan border. The military struck two Taliban and al Qaeda bases in the village of Daygan with artillery and Cobra gunship helicopters. "No ground forces were used in the assault," the Associated Press reported. The attack, which occurred 10 miles west of Miramshah, lasted four hours.
Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad, the chief spokesman for the Pakistani military, has said the attacks in North Waziristan are not linked to the Camp David talks between President George Bush and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, where the situation in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province was a focal point. Since the release of the National Intelligence estimate this summer which stated the Northwest Frontier Province has become an al Qaeda haven, there have been conflicting statements on whether the U.S. would take unilateral action against al Qaeda inside Pakistani territory.
While there has been much talk of a pending Pakistani operation to fight the Taliban and al Qaeda in North Waziristan, an all out assault has yet to materialize.

I suppose the Paks knew that if it was “Barak” they would have to fix it.

3-2-1
Countdown to Barry taking credit for this action.
When we first went into Afghanistan, Usama told his pak friends to go back and wait another day. There is an old tape and/or video about "no more"...not now.
We're pretty damn lucky to have Muscharoff on our side. I consider him very brave just as I consider Karzai very brave.
When we first got to Pakistan, they were way behind in intelligence but they're in a better position now. Muscharoff does not need a civil war on his hands and proceeds with caution.
Obama is a fool.
Pakistan bombards (2) militant hide-outs (North Waziristan, Daygan, 10 miles North of Miran Shah)
Is this where they are going to start applying the old tried and true “estimated enemy body count”, like they did in Vietnam???
They’ll have a briefing to the press about the operation, show a few pictures, maybe a canteen or two, AK-47, and other assorted bricker-brack, then tell us how many enemy they “estimate” they got???
I was kinda young at that time, but I could see BS like that when it was presented...
Yeah, I was kinda cynical when I was young...
And everyone is going to be so relieved that Pakistan finally got off its duff and did something newsworthy...
Again, cynical is blleding through...
Few more dead goons to dump down the shaft leading to the hot coal bed in Hell.
I’m going to suggest that Obama was fed some intel about a pending hit on this area of Pakistan. It seems to fit what Obama said just a little too nicely!!
I have been to busy of lately trying to get a Earthlink high speed wireless service to work. Am not up on the news of who said what for the past few days. I have just been popping on and off the FR site to scan for any major news without going into any details. But thanks for the suggestion.
