Jack Bauer's Next Mission: Fighting Global Warming

From "An Inconvenient Truth" to popularizing the Prius, Hollywood has helped lead the way on some environmental issues. One of the latest initiatives: Cool Change, Fox's company-wide program to reduce the network's impact on global warming. As part of that effort, the seventh season of "24" will take steps to reduce and offset the carbon emissions from the show's production, with the goal of having the season finale be entirely carbon-neutral.

It may sound like a publicity stunt, but Fox spokesman Chris Anderson says the network isn't after bigger ratings. "We are publicizing '24's' commitment to climate change for two reasons and two reasons only: to inspire the public to take global warming seriously and hopefully to motivate other studios to make changes to their production practices as well," he says.

Uh, oh. Sounds like Jack may be joining PETA and Algore may be the new head of CTU. I wonder who the bad guys are going to be in season seven. Sounds like they could be those scummy capitalists we all abhor rather than those muslim terrorists we're learning to love. Ugh!!!

The plot will now will be thoroughly as implausible as the main character’s incarnations. Any series that doesn’t feature Muslims as the bad guys is a waste of twenty-four hours.

This reminds me of the old Mission Impossible television series. After many years of success, they switched over to hunting down politically correct domestic “criminals” and the show grew boring. :-)

Is Jack about to jump the endangered shark?

On one hand, I applaud them for actually attempting to put their beliefs in practice.

But IMHO, Jack shouldn’t worry so much about saving the environment (or Audrey for that matter) and should worry about saving the show.

If they really wanted to fight global warming, they’d shut down the whole operation.

This is production, not necessarily plot. Doesn't mean Jack will become a reborn Algore.

Gave up on it last year anyway, so no loss either way.

Sorry, but I was never convinced anyway of the macho mojo of a lead character portrayed by the offspring of Canadian hippie Donald Sutherland.

“Kiefer”........snicker.....

Algore may be the new head of CTU

"reduce and offset the carbon emissions from the show's production".

It's the production of the show not the plot.

I will now check back at the next 50 posts that still think it will be the plot line of the series.

A shame, but 24 has about run its course. It is difficult to find new material for that kind of progam.

Even this last season was stretching beyond credibility with all the Baur family involvements.

And the season will showcase a new Lady President.

Good 'ol WaPo, always on the cutting edge of the story -- which is at least three weeks old already.
