US lawmaker defends Mecca bombing comments Aug 5 05:55 PM US/Eastern Fiery Republican presidential long-shot Tom Tancredo Sunday defended his suggestion that America should threaten to bomb Muslim holy sites in order to deter a nuclear attack on US soil.
Tancredo first mooted his controversial position last week, prompting the State Department to describe it as "absolutely crazy."
"Yes, the State Department -- boy, when they start complaining about things I say, I feel a lot better about the things I say," Colorado representative Tancredo said in a presidential debate in Iowa televised on ABC.
"My task as president of the United States is primarily to do one thing -- by the way, not to make sure everybody has health care or everybody's child is educated -- my task is to do one thing: to protect and defend this country.
"And that means to deter -- and I want to underline "deter" -- any kind of aggression, especially the type we are threatened with by Al-Qaeda, which is nuclear attack.
"I'm telling you right now that anybody that would suggest that we should take anything like this off the table in order to deter that kind of event in the United States isn't fit to be president of the United States."
The State Department on Friday reacted angrily to Tancredo's initial comments.
"Let me just say that it is absolutely outrageous and reprehensible for anyone to suggest attacks on holy sites -- whether they are Muslim, Christian, Jewish or those of any other religion," departmental spokesman Tom Casey said.

He is sooo right. We love TOM. Go Tom go!!
Kudos to Tank Tancredo!
So if THEY don't like Tom Tancredo, he sounds A-OK to me.
Considering the muzzies bomb everyone's holy sites, including their OWN, I agree with Tom.
State Dept. is full of cr@p on this one.
You nuke US, we nuke YOU, only I'd start with Tehran, THEN Mecca....
Finally a republican says that we don't have a right to healthcare and the government is responsible for your life. Where is Giuliani and Romney on this? Oh I forgot, "MittCare" is in Massachusetts now.
“.....and the government is NOT responsible for your life.”
Third: It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from Cuba against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union.
Makes sense to me!
While I agree, I also think we can stick a fork in him. He’s done.
Muslim sites are more political and offensive (in the armory sense) than religioous.
Don’t forget the Mahdi’s well in Qom.
"Those who wish to hold office can speak for themselves and whoever is elected in 2008 and comes into office in 2009 will then be in a position to talk about what they intend or plan to do," said Casey.
Do we not have a right to know from the candidates how they "intend or plan" to protect our nation until the state department tells them they can? WTF is the state department doing inserting itself into a political campaign?
On Taxes:
A growing chorus of economists and experts argue, and I agree, that the current income tax system is complex and unfair and should be replaced by a flat tax or national sales tax. Simplifying the process would dramatically reduce the costs of compliance, make American companies more competitive, and put billions back into the economy by encouraging investment.

Tancredo also spoke at the FairTax rally Tuesday, May 15, 2007 where he declared his support for the FairTax

FREEPMAIL ME TO BE ADDED TO THIS TANCREDO 08 PING LIST
All responses should be on the table. Had Dhimmi Carter used Qom as a test site for the Neutron Bomb, we’d never have had to deal with Allan’s Nut Patrol ever again.
Right on TANC!~
I'd consider it "Ground Zero"....
This is not the first Tancredo made this “Bomb Mecca” statement....he did so earlier this year on a local Orlando radio show.
I totally agree with Rep Tancredo. If the US is willing to take out Muslim sites to counter terrorism, I am all in favor of it
Remember on 9/11, the WTC was chosen because it was a symbol of many things to Islamic Terrorists...it was not only because of the number of people they could kill.
I question those who do not have the will or backbone to do something as gutsy as Tancredo would do. We need someone willing to counter Islamic hate, not someone who will roll over and play dead like some dumb-dog globalist
“..America should threaten to bomb Muslim holy sites in order to deter a nuclear attack on US soil.”
Hmm, finally someone coming up with the right idea. Took them long enough. And if threats don’t have the desired effect, action will have to be taken. Else, the US will be known as a babba ganoosh or hummus tiger.
