SHANGHAI, Aug. 1 -- A DOG in southwestern Chongqing Municipality is said to have swam across part of the flood-swollen Yangtze River every day to feed her puppies that were trapped on an island for almost 15 days.
Hua Hua reportedly swam more than one kilometer to Shanhuba Island, where her four newborn puppies were stranded due to rising water levels, Chongqing Evening News reported today.
Shanhuba's road links to the mainland have been inaccessible since mid-July because of the high water level, the report said.
The four puppies, about 10-days old, were said to be huddled together in some hollow bricks piled on the island, the report cited Huang Pinghui, a local who found the puppies on Friday afternoon.
A Chongqing Evening News reporter took Huang's boat and followed Hua Hua to the island yesterday afternoon.
The report said Hua Hua searched for food during the day on the mainland and swam to the island at night to feed her babies.
Touched by Hua Hua's care and dedication, residents gave the dog meat and other food, the report said.
Huang also told the newspaper that residents were considering finding a home for Hua Hua and her puppies after the floodwaters retreated.
Good dog!

IT is always amazing to me that a simple mammal like a dog in some ways has more moral and ethical obligation to its young than ghettos mothers on crack who are willing to abandon their children...anywhere...and a dog has no religion to guide it...just instinct...therefore crack heads lack even instinct...
This IS China afterall.
OMG I just spit out my drink after reading your post. Too funny.
Locals were so moved hey had the dog and her puppies over for dinner.

Poor ol’ Buddy - we know he was just a prop - wanna bet Hilary gets another dog?
Any man who does not like dogs and want them about does not deserve to be in the White House.

I was in China recently. The stories about them eating dogs are true. Just go to any Chinese market. You will see them. They have meat dogs sold a few yards from the pet dogs. The ugly ones become meat, the cute ones are sold as pets.
If Hua Hua gets into Zen, she can be a Chi Hua Hua.
dog fight?
Hope you didn’t ruin your keyboard;-)
“a dog has no religion to guide it...just instinct...therefore crack heads lack even instinct...”
...and you don’t need religion to tell right from wrong.
I was sure that this was another Michael Vick thread...
Depends on what you consider right and wrong.
Thanks for the quote source. I’ve always loved that one.
