The Rise of Kos

By E. J. Dionne Jr. Friday, August 3, 2007; A15

Perhaps you missed it, but Wednesday was the 19th anniversary of Rush Limbaugh's radio show. Limbaugh was celebrating his ripe old age, in media years, in the same week that liberal blog fans were trekking to Chicago for the YearlyKos convention. Therein lies one of the most important stories in American politics.

Make no mistake: From the beginning, Limbaugh was a revolutionary figure. He befuddled Democrats and the journalistic establishment because he was an up-to-date throwback. The large audience he won on the right marked the return in the United States of openly partisan mass media, a 19th-century phenomenon that had all but disappeared in the late 20th century.

Limbaugh is not primarily about information, though he freely uses even those bits that come his way courtesy of dreaded "liberal" media sources. His goal is mobilization, and he has been extremely good at it. He spawned conservative imitators in media markets all over the nation and aroused a faithful band of Dittoheads who despise all things liberal and Democratic.

Um...what exactly is a “kos”? A weird animal? Something that’s “halfway kosher”? The Komitet Oblast Subversionists? ;);)

A few weeks ago I was corrected by a liberal associate and was told that the word Kos from the "Daily Kos" is actually new age lingo spelling. The first letter is a phonetic capital "K" and is supposed to be pronounced as "Kay." Therefore the word should be pronounced Kayos as in Chaos.

Go figure.

We should just ignore Kos, it is a cesspit of hate and ignorance that is being validated by the whacko Dems.

Let them all play in their own sh*theap, they’ll come out stinking to high heaven...

When Rush had a much smaller audience than today, he was able to turn Ft. Collins into Colorado’s second largest city. That’s a lot bigger impact than filling a ballroom.

Comparing him to Kos only elevates Kos, which was probably Dionne’s intent in the first place.

Keep in mind that Rush had to work from inferior AM radio at the time, with zero publicity. He completely built a whole new apparatus.

There's no comparison of Rush to Kos, it's like comparing the NFL to the defunct USFL.

the rabid left does seem to be a major mover in US politics... they keep the left from being sensible and the rest of us have to live with it

He's right about this, actually.

So true and he doesn't even know it. How sad for him. How good for us. Them being what they are in front of everyone.

“the rabid left does seem to be a major mover in US politics... they keep the left from being sensible and the rest of us have to live with it”

Actually the Rabid Left is a small fraction of the population. It is the elitist element that exploits these lunatics for their own political agenda that we have to be aware of. They are no different then any minority group.

Lawyers steal from them, politicians treat them like trained seals and they are more then willing to perform for a fish.

These people are too stupid to realize that they already own a fishing pole and the politicians want to take it away from them.
