Dianne Feinstein just announced that she will vote for Judge Southwick in committee, and after some whining by Sens. Durbin and Kennedy the nominee was reported out 10-9 with a positive recommendation.
Gee, is President Fred having a positive effect already?
He writes this http://fredfile.imwithfred.com/2007/judge-southwick-should-be-confirmed/
and then some Democrats act almost sane
FYI ping. Good news!
Any other judicial nominations being acted on?
Judge Southwick should be confirmed, and liberal lawyer Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), who announced to liberal lawyers at the American Constitution Society: I will recommend to my colleagues that we should not confirm a Supreme Court nominee except in extraordinary circumstances, should be disbarred.
Wonderful news and a victory for common sense! Leslie Southwick is being appointed (and now very likely confirmed) to the same court that ruled 8-7 in favor of allowing a Louisiana school board to have prayers. It’s clear we need more conservatives on this court that oversees deeply conservative states like Texas and Louisiana.
“Dianne Feinstein just announced that she will vote for Judge Southwick in committee”
THAT is a surprise. And not the first time she’s broken with her party on judges, as she also supported Jeffrey Sutton for the 6th. Circuit a few years back.
Good news for Southwick. Good news for America.
(probably means that Dems aren’t enjoying the lowest popularity rating rating of any U.S. Congress in History, either: 14% national approval)
I don’t think that is the case.
Leahy, Kennedy, and Turbin were surprised at the outcome...they must have thought that the vote was going to be 10-9 in the other direction.
I guess its possible Schumer is pulling a fast one over these 3, but I highly doubt its the case.
It’s more likely something was given to DiFi quid pro quo. To be fair, DiFi and Kohl are not quite as wacky as the other 8.
We have enough conservatives on the 5th circuit. We need more conservatives everywhere else.

What are the prospects elsewhere?

You can take about 6 of the CCA seats and scratch them, as they’re in states held by a pair of Dimocrat Senators.
Its the 4th circuit that is in desperate shape with 5 CCA vacancies. Things become more dire as the 4th rule on Guantanemo Bay.
Peter Keisler is the big name on the list, and the moonbats will definitely throw a fuss when his name comes up. Frist was too much of a wimp to push him through last year, so things have to be done the hard way, but rumor has it that he will get DiFi’s vote as well.
Yup, the 4th circuit is the real problem.
The NC seat has a nomination which Leahy is already whining about.
The MD seat won’t get filled thanks to Cardin.
The SC seat is currently being blocked by Lindsey Graham’s bickering.
The 2 VA seats have a pre-approved Webb list of 5 to pick from, and they’ll probably come down this year.
You’re right. We really need to put some folks on the 4th Circuit and SOON! However, I disagree with the sentiment that we have enough conservatives on the 5th Circuit. The recent 8-7 decision in favor of school prayer shows that we could use some more. That’s just too close for comfort.
It might be for now, but there will be 3 more Bush judges there, possibly by the end of this year.
The 4th should be the most conservative circuit but it has been virtually depopulated because of sneaky weasles like Lindsey Graham holding up good judges in Committee.
I guess Diane drew the short straw
She was the designated voter. She didn’t have a mental break through.
