Permalink Why Bill OReillys Attack on FreeRepublic.com are Unfair
Bill O’Reilly’s been making waves the past few weeks by focusing on the prevalance of ‘hateful’ content at the liberal website, Daily Kos. O’Reilly is particularly disturbed to see Democratic presidential candidates agreeing to speak at the annual YearlyKos convention that will take place August 2nd through 5th.
To show balance in his reporting, O’Reilly has unfortunately chosen to target the good people who visit the conservative website, www.FreeRepublic.com. Last night O’Reilly had on his show a friend of mine, Kristinn Taylor, who is a spokesperson for Free Republic, to defend the website from O’Reilly’s criticisms.
To his credit, O’Reilly noted that the amount of controversial content at FreeRepublic pales in comparison to that which appears on a near-daily basis at DailyKos.
As someone who visits FreeRepublic each day, and as someone who has contributed to the website’s fundraising drives, I feel compelled to speak out in defense of FreeRepublic from the critical comments made by O’Reilly.
FreeRepublic.com was launched in the infancy of the Internet, serving as a source for the sharing of news stories from around the world, and the chance to have an open dialogue on these stories. Soon thereafter, FReepers (as they are known), used the website to also organize grass roots efforts to allow patriotic Americans to mobilize efforts to make their voices heard in the public square.
As the Chairman of Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, I’ve seen the impact that such efforts have had. Thousands upon thousands of proud, decent Americans who love their country have become informed of Move America Forward’s countless pro-troop rallies, care package shipments and calls for help to assist the heroic men and women of the United States military thanks to Free Republic.
To equate these decent and noble efforts with those of a website like DailyKos, which routinely denounces the U.S. military and the foundations of liberty that this nation cherishes, is dishonest and unfair.
I won’t stand for that, and I urge all the members and supporters of Move America Forward to show solidarity with the great Americans who participate at FreeRepublic forums.
This September FReepers will once again use the FreeRepublic website to organize public displays of support for our troops and their missions in the War on Terror. This is the kind of good work these people do each and every day, and that deserves the respect and support from all of us who cherish this country and the leadership our nation provides in fighting the forces of tyranny and terrorism.

Thanks pookie, was getting ready to do the same thing.
If B.O. isn’t careful, he’s likely to earn the irrelevance he so richly deserves.
Can you guys add the “s” I left off in the posting of the headline (and then in pasting the article) in “Attacks” - I don’t want anyone to be defending FR with a display of poor grammar :-)
No Spine Zone.
The irony is BOR will make every effort to find ‘something’ today that he can trot out tonight to support his misguided statements from last night.
Everybody say hello to The Factor interns doing the work....(chuckle)
Hello, interns!
EXACTLY! And that was a lousy thing to do to take a cheap shot at Free Republic so he can make himself look "fair and balanced."
That act was both unfair and imbalanced.
You wonder why he thinks he has to appease liberals when they have nothing but contempt for him.
When O’Reilly did his anti-Reagan blasts as an over-rated President, I realized that he was a blow-hard and out for his own ratings and the heck with the cause. So the fact that he kicks FReepers should come as no surprise.
He says and does a lot of good things, but no warm place in my heart for someone like him.
Yes, hello O'Reilly Factor Interns! The water's warm, you should come on in!!
We need a list of the posts O'Reilly was talking about. As a matter of fact we demand a list. Then we will discuss it in public.
B U M P
O’Reilly is irrelevant. He’s a showman and he’s putting on a show, that’s all.
I have more respect for guys Like Lou Dobbs who grab onto an important issue and don’t let go than I have for people like O’Reilly who jump on the daily trend.
FR is a forum. All forums have problems with internet cowboys who like to start range wars and say outrageous things. We have moderators who put out these fires. O’Reilly doesn’t have a clue about all this internet stuff; he just plays someone on TV that acts like he does.
Face it, FR used to be a LOT worse. As a matter of fact, a lot of old-timers left because we became too tame.

Thank you for posting this- I missed the segment, but saw it (was on phone and saw captions of TV)
The guy is just jealous because FR gets higher Alexis ratings than his POS website.
It's a free country though and if O'Reilly wants to go through life with his hemmorhoids impaled on that fence, the more power to him as long as he doesn't slander his betters and believe me when I say that there are many thousands of posters here at FR who would wipe the smirk off of Bill's face if he engaged in debate here.
Thank you Melanie for setting the record straight.
Thanks.
I sent an email asking politely for BOR to provide the documentation he kept referencing, but never showed, last night.
I’ll be on the road, driving to Texas tonight, so I won’t see it, but I’ll try to listen via XM.
