I taped a segment on the O'Reilly Factor for airing tonight to defend Free Republic against charges that it is a hate site. The segment will air in the 'D block' around 8:35 p.m. EDT and rerun at 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. EDT.
Rather than tell how it went, I'll leave it for folks to watch and decide for themselves. I hope I did right by FR.
We'll be having company tonight as some of Bill O'Reilly's two million-plus viewers check out FR for themselves. So please bear that in mind as you comment tonight. The Daily Kos is waging a very nasty personal campaign of retribution against O'Reilly. No sense in us piling on. Let's use this as an opportunity to show people why FR is the best conservative site on the web.

Hi Bill,
I've been a subscriber to Free Republic for about two years. I've been involved in a lot of Freeper discussion groups and have led several threads, including one where I identified myself as a black Freeper, with no blatantly racial kickback.
What the Freeper spokesman should have mentioned is that the discussion threads are SELF-POLICING...when someone gets out of line, my experience has been that somewhere down the thread, THEY WILL BE CALLED ON IT.
Free Republic is first and foremost, a meeting place for conservatives. The discussions run overwhelmingly along ideological lines, that at times have racial subtexts.
I have NEVER experienced blatant racism on the site. If I did I would challenge it, and so would others.

The truth is that Free Republic is probably the best MODERATED site I’ve visited on the web. As the posting page says, “no racism, no violence, no personal attacks.” Added to that is that there generally is no outlandish profanity, no trolling, and an expectation for decorum when a tragedy has happened even to a bitter opponent.
I’m betting that O’Reilly’s own site surpass the everyday kind of mannerliness of Free Republic.
Also, compared to sites of such superstars as O’Reilly and Limbaugh, Free Republic does not require payment to be a “premium” member. It’s all donation, and a non-donor is given just as much respect as anyone else.

And that’s what ORielly don’t get, DU (Democrat Underground) is set-up more like Free Republic than Daily Kos. Suppose DU is so vile, they couldn’t use it and had to go with the less vulgar Daily Kos, Which looks closer like NY Times Editorials, with the option to leave vulgarities, opps, I mean comments.

He was not provided any sort of proof that O'Reilly's accusations were factual.
Of course, we are all supposed to believe that whatever O'Reilly says is gospel.

I wrote a concise letter to Mr. O’Reilly regarding his application of false stereotype and my disappointment.
After tonights show, I don’t think it helped.

Anybody know anything about Glenn Beck? I have watched him for the last couple of weeks. He seems like a good guy so far.
Nor do I any longer. The first night he attacked the SwiftBoat Vets, I stopped watching him. I watched the re-run last nite because of the first thread about him trashing FR, and I watched again tonite because I knew there would be more.
I do have a suggestion in regard to Mr. O'Reilly. Everyone on FR should do exactly what both of us do - NEVER watch him, and tell your conservative friends not to watch him. Let Mr. "O" trash anyone he desires. Don't write him letters; don't e-mail him; don't complain about him to Fox. Just don't watch him and see how long he remains # 1 on cable news. His ratings have probably been better the past couple of nites than they've been for months because all of us have tuned in to watch him trash us. Counter-productive IMO.
