Just heard it on John Gibson's Big Story. I hope I'm wrong but that's how I heard it.

Just confirmed by Supreme Court spokesperson that he suffered a benign idiopathic seizure.

Did the seizure happen because of the fall, or did the fall happen because of the seizure?

Actually, grand mal is just a type of epilepsy. For a detailed explanation go to National Epilepsy Foundation

I was watching Lou Dobbs, (CNN) and it was reported that the seizure caused the fall. Then, after Dobbs was off, (top of the hour), it was reported that the fall caused the seizure. Not too clear, yet.

The fall happened because of the seizure. It appears that it isn’t a Grand Mal seizure...

Seizures are classified as idiopathic when no cause can be identified. That doesn’t tell us much.

So what. Justice Stevens has been going through a kings ransom’s worth of suppositories and geritol IV drip every day for the last ten years.

Updated report is seizure caused fall; minor physical injuries; to be kept overnight as a precaution. However, I just had an ambulance escorted by two police vans screaming south down Route 1 in Bath, ME pass me, so if he shows up at Maine Medical Center in Portland later, that was likely him.

Introduction
“A grand mal seizure — also known as a tonic-clonic seizure — features a loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions. It’s the type of seizure most people picture when they think about seizures in general.”

“Grand mal seizure is caused by abnormal electrical activity throughout the brain, so signs and symptoms typically involve the entire body. In some cases, this type of seizure is triggered by other health problems, such as extremely low blood sugar or kidney failure. However, most grand mal seizures occur as a result of epilepsy.”

“Grand mal seizure affects all ages. This variety of seizure can occur just once or may recur throughout life. It takes at least two seizures to justify a diagnosis of epilepsy. Daily anti-seizure medications can control grand mal episodes for most people.”

I hope Roberts is ok.
This is such a coincidence. Just a few hours ago a co-worker friend of mine had a seizure, (high blood pressure) he hit the floor right next to me like a sack of potatoes. I was amazed that he didn’t cut his head. He was having such a spasm and was so out of it he couldn’t take a breath for over a minute. When the EMT’s showed up they gave him some oxygen and after 10-15 minutes he slowly started to come out of it. They stayed with him for an hour or so sat him up and observed him while we arranged to have his family pick him up and take him in to his doctor. What an experience! I think he will be ok and back at work tomorrow
I hope Roberts recovers as quickly.

The *REAL* coincidence is the fact that just yesterday Chuckie Schumer was talking about how Roberts and Alito hoodwinked the Dems into voting for them and would never get such a pass next time.

Here is a bit of historical trivia. Julius Caesar had epilepsy.

To be truly benign, a seizure should meet three criteria:
1.It should not be caused by anything that will injure the brain.
2. The seizures themselves should not injure the brain or any other part of the body.
3. It should have no significant impact on the person's psychological and social well-being.

Since the cause of the seizure is not known, they are probably calling it benign until a proper diagnosis is made. But, at this point, all it tells us is that the doctors don't know what caused it.

Don't get me wrong, I hope all is well with Justice Roberts. I know what it is like to live with epilepsy, so my prayer is that this will not be the diagnosis. All I'm trying to point out is that benign idiopathic does not mean much...yet.

By now he has been scanned and they know it isn’t a tumor or metastasis,,that was my first worry. If he is okay, he is good to go. Since it is his second, they may put him on meds for a while.

There’s a long list of people who had epilepsy: Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, van Gogh, Handel, Berlioz, Paganini, Tchaikovski, Agatha Christie, Charles Dickens, Dante, Edgar Allan Poe, Dostoyevsky, Lewis Carrol, Sir Walter Scott, Pythagoras (very probably, Socrates (very likely also), Martin Luther, Alexander the Great, Charles V of Spain, James Madison, Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Peter the Great, Alfred Nobel, Sir Isaac Newton, Hannibal (strongly suspected)... as you can see those were men who did not let epilepsy get in their way. Or, like I said earlier, it takes brains to have epilepsy!
