Pope: Creation vs. evolution clash an ‘absurdity’
MSNBC ^ | 7/24/2007

Pope Benedict XVI said the debate raging in some countries — particularly the United States and his native Germany — between creationism and evolution was an “absurdity,” saying that evolution can coexist with faith.

The pontiff, speaking as he was concluding his holiday in northern Italy, also said that while there is much scientific proof to support evolution, the theory could not exclude a role by God.

“They are presented as alternatives that exclude each other,” the pope said. “This clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such.”

He said evolution did not answer all the questions: “Above all it does not answer the great philosophical question, ‘Where does everything come from?’”

Benedict also said the human race must listen to “the voice of the Earth” or risk destroying its very existence.

Do you understand where I’m coming from?

Yes. You think that reproduction is impossible, plants don't grow, and infants simply deteriorate.

Personally, I suggest going outside once in a while.

Yes, but not purgatory. And we believe God's Word

Matthew 12:32

Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

Matthew 5:25-26

"Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny."

1 Corinthians 3:13-15

If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

Catholics have needed something to amuse themselves lately as $2 billions have been dissipated as a result of numerous moral dissipations.

Sinful Christians. Who would have thought?

That goes way beyond mere sin; headlong into abomination and hellfire.

‘Dead Darwin’s theory? Which is from the pit of hell with all it’s anti-God, anti-Christ junk science?”

Not an adherent of evolution being completely accurate but at the same time why is it necessary to link scientific theories being “from the pit of hell.”

Do you get more donations with that line?

Respect. More, I’m thirsty. How do you see the current situation with Israel’s neighbors and the US role in the future based on our unique Judeo-Christian values?

I would like to hear that from someone who has a deeper knowledge basis than myself.

Which is a lesson from Batman that we can all learn from.

And remember that Batman was a conservative:

Batman: “Nobody wants war.”
Robin: “Gee, Batman. Belgravia’s such a small country. We’d beat them in a few hours.”
Batman: “Yes, and then we’d have to support them for years.”

“I’m not disagreeing that the word could be translated as became in Genesis 1:2”

It makes sense if you think about it, considering the scientific evidence shows that fossils are much older then 10,000 years. The first world after being ruined by Lucifer was made right again by God, and then God created Adam and Eve.

And you have no revelation of Scripture - but you already knew that. You are saying God gave us His Word but, geez, we can’t and shouldn’t be able understand it. YOU are the hindrance to not understanding but those that are Holy Spirit filled understand it. Bible states a carnal man can have no revelation.

Your condemnation has no weight - I’m to expect it. Everything I’m to expect, is in His Word. God truly loves, protects His own as opposed to those that spread lies by saying - we can’t or shouldn’t be able to understand it. Totally blasphemy against His Word.
He tells us to study and make ourselves approved and to follow His Word. A good copout for you not to follow it saying you can’t nor shouldn't be able to understand it. God's Word says one thing, you say another. Now who is the fraud?

Those Scriptures are your basis for purgatory? LOL Study and get the lesson in it for you are way off base.

Besides which - you are saying Jesus' death wasn't 'enough' - something else needs to be done to cover your sins. Totally against God's Word. In essence you are saying - Jesus, I'm sorry but you see - you didn't do it all at the Cross, "I" need to do something else. You put yourself above God implying He didn't finish the work at The Cross.

Not to swift using God's Word to come against The Power of The Blood and reduce it down to your level that somehow YOU have to be involved to make His Work complete. The scriptures you use to make a case for purgatory clearly demonstrates your lack of knowledge of them and Jesus' Gift of Salvation at The Cross.

One irrefutable fact of human history is that the worse things are in this life the more people look to the next life for improvement. Conversely, the better this life becomes, the more secular the people become (as evidenced by Europe and much of the urban US). It is therefore no coincidence that an area that is barren, harsh and highly contested as a strategic location between more powerful neighbors such as Israel has had such an intense religious history.

This phenomenon is being perpetuated and exploited by the oil rich Muslim nations who impoverish, exploit and oppress the Palestinians in an attempt to diminish and destabilize Israel. The average sheik or mullah doesn't give a damn about Judaism. Muslims have coexisted with Jews for 1200 years. What they don't want established in the middle east is a successful free state. If Israel, and now Iraq, succeed as free nations comprised of free and prosperous peoples it will set an example for the Arab world that militant Islam and hereditary monarchies can be successful in their environments are not in the best interests of the people. This will diminish the roles and power of the ruling class. After all, wasn't this the reason that the Romans and Jewish priests killed Jesus?

I don't expect things to stabilize in the middle east until, as George Bush advocates, all of the people there are free. This probably won't happen until the Arabs and Iran run out of oil.

No, I get nothing but you get Truth.

Satan will use ANYTHING to defy The Word of God. Not being in The Word and not having a personal relationship with God will leave your mind open to deception. If it's not filled with Truth and understanding of deception and how/why it enters along with the lack of wisdom and discernment (gift of the HS) - it will be filled w/the opposite and one will fall prey to anything. Nothing new about man trying to outdo God - it's started in the beginning with deception and disobedience followed. In other words, there is nothing new under the sun - deception is from the beginning and it's straight from the pit of hell.

I’d agree with you that a lot of what passes for scientific “facts” are, actually, educated guesses. Archeologists can’t even agree 100% on the dates that various Pharaohs of Egypt ruled between 3,000 and 4,000 years ago - so how are other scientists going to know with ANY certainty when events hundreds of thousands or millions (or billions) of years ago occurred? Of course, Paleontology and evolutionary studies are not, as is the case with mathematics, exact sciences [at least not until we invent time travel :>)] ... so no one serious expects exact numbers.

Do you REALLY think God is inadequate in describing His creation to us? What, He’s not a good enough communicator for you or something?

I think that G-d tailored his message to the readers, us relatively (to Him) simple creatures. What kind of Bible would it be if there were 50,000 pages of exacting descriptions of what G-d did? Aside from the fact that no one would understand it (at least not for thousands of years) and therefore not pay attention to it (and I believe us understanding it and acting upon its laws and precepts was His goal), but then we as a species wouldn't have had to use our minds to invent and develop science. Would you say that G-d gave us intelligence for no reason? I wouldn't - I'd say that there are LOTS of reasons for it, among which one is to learn about the world He created (as a means of appreciating Him).

So, no, I don't believe G-d is inadequate in describing His creation to us - it is WE who were certainly incapable of understanding anything other than the simplest allegories some 3,300 years ago (and we STILL don't come close to understanding it, we're just less unknowledgable due to advances in science).

Besides, as the article I linked to in Post #106 says, Jewish sages for thousands of years have known and understood that the description of the Creation is AN ALLEGORY. Its the JEWISH BIBLE, given to Jews in their own language, studied exclusively by them for at least 1,300 years, taught about it by genuine Prophets for a period of roughly 1,000 of those years, etc. Oh, and the knowledge base and traditions didn't disappear just because there arose a new religion roughly 19 1/2 centuries ago...Jews, especially their scholars, have studied and examined the Torah exceedingly thoroughly for those same 19 1/2 centuries. Even if scholars from other religions have studied it, that study has been by FAR, FAR fewer people, so I'd tend - by dint of sheer man-years of study - to give the Jews the benefit of understanding their own Bible better than anyone else. Do you argue with that?

So you’re telling me Satan is a scientist and evolution is his science from the “pit of hell.”

Good thing Copernicus isn’t around. You’d be lighting the match on him too I guess.

You’re never going to convince me of your religious beliefs here. Sorry, but I really don’t have any problem with the evolving understanding of science and faith.

Evolution may fall, may be changed, may be subsumed by new theories of a scientific nature but I’m hardly going to find it as any big deal in regards to faith. I’m still baffled by the archaic nature of tying a scientific theory into a simple idea of devil ownership.

It sounds like something rustled up under a tent down in Texas to a bunch of poor folks jumping up and down hollering. But it doesn’t make any sense.

I say this as someone not rooted in evolution.

You nicely tied the historical human element of suffering to living with the current state of the ME. I agree with that as it fits perfectly into the hypocrisy of Arab leaders who use religion to keep their people meek and humble while they take their expensive trips where booze and women are made available.

The mindset is of course primarily bent on control and maintaining power. No one in government anywhere in the world seeks to have it taken from them. Even in countries with mature democratic institutions.

Just one look at the Democrats today is all you need to know about the desire for power reigning above all. They have completely demolished the idea of the nation in war being placed ahead of personal gain. They use the Iraq war as a lever to elevate themselves. And they care nothing for the consequences.

I laugh loudly at the people who claim evolution is truth because “X” amount of people believe in evolution.

Then I can ignore your point in post #26 where you said "There are many people who disbelieve evolution because of science."

Since the number of people who accept evolution or literal genesis creation are irrelevant, then I will ignore them and will feel free to accept the obvious science of evolution without distraction.
