A Tulsa man will be honored this week for saving another man's life. Back in April, Michael Cook came to the rescue when a pitbull attacked his neighbor. The News On 6’s Chris Wright reports Cook will receive the Citizen Appreciation Award from Tulsa police on Tuesday, an honor his neighbor says he more than deserves.

Marvin Battle walks with a cane these days, but says considering what happen to him on April 25th, he can live with the limp.

"I can't bend my leg. I have to go through physical therapy,” said Battle. “I've been on a lot of pain medications. I have panic attacks and I have nightmares."

The dog’s owner should surrender his house and bank account now.

Yeah all those tigers sneaking up on people in residential neighborhoods, dragging off kids and pets as mid-day snacks.

You don’t neccessarily have to put someone in jail to punish them. It would depend on the circumstances.

They are all killing machines. They've been bred to kill anything, have locking jaws, and can exert thousands of pounds of bite pressure. The science is in agreement.

I find his story dubious and anyone who posts a staged photo like he did reveals other motives. Bet he mounted him too so he could regale his visitors with his death-defying act of bravery....protecting the children and all, you know.

Good on you. Let me guess - the owner hasn’t shown up yet?

When I was in college, my roommate’s Granddad shot 3 dogs in a corral...but they had already killed a couple dozen purebred sheep. The owners didn’t show up that time, either...

Your post is well taken, but how many times after an attack has the owner said what a sweet dog he was right up until the attack.

What if he’s telling the truth and has saved a neighborhood child?

I borrowed that 45 from a friend just a few days ago.
He gave me a 30min lesson in the proper way to shoot it.
He loaded it with 4 shells that had small pellets like buckshot and the rest regular bullets.
This is the first animal I ever shot.
I was scared to death to go out back after my first encounter with that dog. I called 911 and a deputy from Alamogordo came right down but the dog was gone.
I took the photo for my friend, I am really grateful he loaned me the gun and took the time to show me how to use it properly.

Thank God for the 2nd amendment.

A lot of dogs aren't well socialized, and some are intentionally made mean. At the age of 3, I was badly mauled by a medium-sized hound dog who "never hurt anybody". It tore up my face and I still have the scars. He was normally a friendly dog, but had not been socialized with kids.

I just don't accept that American Pit Bull Terriers are naturally some kind of "killing machines" likely to go off at any time. If properly socialized, they are great dogs.

I think that the whole underworld of fighting dogs is truly evil and it disgusts me what those jerks do to innocent dogs.

I’m sure you are a responsible owner but again look at the times these dogs have turned on their owners or owners family I hope you are right about your dog and don’t end up being attacked or explaining to a neighbor how sorry you are your dog attacked his child and he will be scared the rest of his life.

I’ve seen some sweet pits, but they still make me nervous. Any dog, even well-socialized ones, can “go off” momentarily ... it’s just that a pit can do so much damage before it pulls back and goes “oops”.

Had a funny encounter at the dog park this morning. A pit tried to hump my Pug — the Pug went seriously hostile on the pit, which turned tail and ran off.

I’m surprised the pit bull mod hasn’t dumped the story into ‘chat’ yet.

The way to keep animals away is to pour your own urine around the property. It works with coyotes. You don’t need to load up a weapon.

I noticed the snake shot. That’s only the second time I have seen those cartridges. The first ones had brass cases and these look like they are made from aluminum like Blazers.

I don’t suppose you know who made the 1911 or the particular model name. It looks like it has a Commander hammer.

Keep the dog on a leash or on your own property and there should be no problem what kind of dog you own.

Animals learn how to be ‘evil’ if you want to call it that, by being raised a certain way. They get beaten and mistreated to become killing machines, by people who raise them up to behave that way.

There is a whole drug culture and gang culture that has slimy men and women raising dogs to fight, and also to be early warning detectors and to ‘take the first bullet’ so they can get their guns for whoever’s coming for them.

Gangs are raising violent animals to fight them or protect them. They love pitbulls for the reasons stated in above posts.

I am not saying that certain breeds are not more people friendly than others, but I am saying that I don’t know of any dogs who are like this at birth. You spend 1-2 years of not getting fed enough, getting kicked, punched and rough handled and you’re not going to like people. You’re not going to give a stranger the benefit of the doubt, you will assume that person is going to harm you.

I say we go after the human scum who turns these animals into the killing machines they are. In all candor, these dogs are just like guns to these scummy people. It’s just another tool in their arsenal. Kill off the scummy drug dealers and gang members, much, much less scum left breeding killer dogs.
