President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.
Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.
If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.
"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."
Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

“Heres a thought, how bout addressing the issue of where you going to find labor to replace the Mexicans rather than your cheap attacks.”
In 1999, I was laid-off from a manufacturing job. I was off for 18 months and had trouble finding part-time work. I live not far from several farming communities. There were no openings. None.
I was laid-off again in 2001 for 8 months. Again no farm job opening any where in the area.
Ok, that was then and this is now. My brother got out of the military in mid-December and hunted all over for a job. He did not find one until April. It is fast food work. He hasn’t found anything else since.
An associate of mine has both this son and daughter living with him and both have been hunting for jobs and they are not finding any. There are not ads in the paper or online in this area for farm labor even though there are several farms.
All the examples I gave are of people born in this country who are not farming, and instead struggling for survival and you are supporting the idea that they should not be able to get farm jobs so that people who broke the law to enter this country could have jobs.
I will not thank a Mexican for preventing me and others from working.
HE/SHE is also saying America ( WE ) can’t take care of our own selves...
Bray my friend. Increase the visa quotas on the existing visa programs. There must be 25 existing visa programs that don't grant amnesty to people already in this country.
He's still on his knees to his globalist and Mexican masters and is trying to appease them, even if he's making a fool of himself with his lies.
I read your story and thought you were here in Michigan. I’m not quite sure why we need illegals in the worst unemployment in the country.
I actually said a prayer for Bush, regarding his colonoscaphy. Or however you spell it...
The exam could be difficult; the doctor would have to pull his head out of his ass, first :(
The last time I checked there were 8 or 10 legal farm work programs for foreign workers. The difference is that corporate farms want off the books labor, so Mr. and Mrs. Tax payer picks up the actual cost of the illegal.
I doubt you've ever spent a day in a farm field.
What do you mean making it hard for Law Abiding people to come to America?? You going to open the immigration rules??
Pray for W and Our Troops
Well, yeah. That's this fuss is all about.
Maybe you and I are Honorary Illegals.
If we need people, there is always LEGAL immigration.
there are decent, law-abiding people waiting to come here.
IF we need them, they should be allowed to come.
Why do you prefer LAW BREAKING?
oh yeah— you won’t say what you do for a living..
;-)
The other jobs paid better, but I don’t much like heights or confined spaces. Dirt and heat and physical labor I didn’t mind.
That is the most coherent answer I have ever heard. Great job.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Socialism within the entire U.S. will completely destroy this country forever, and I don’t see this not happening very soon. Please prove me wrong on this!
Bingo, you don't let a illegal with a 4th grade education behind the wheel of a 300,000 dollar combine.
I was thinking of the days before these machines were developed. And you make a good point about the skilled legal hands that operate this machinery. Get rid of these illegals and farmers would invest in more machinery. My point is that American citizens used to do all the work that needed to be done. During the depression I worked topping carrots from dawn to dusk for 9 cents a bushel. We Americans, many of us legal immigrants, did those jobs in those days.
Si.
