Like the global warming debate, those whose bank account seems to stand to gain from bad news about obesity are again pronouncing gloom and doom. And, again, "Blacks and poor hardest hit".

During the Clinton years, the CDC changed the rules on the height-weight charts, making millions overweight, or obese, overnight. David Satcher, Clinton's Surgeon General, stated, "The prevalence of overweight and obesity has nearly doubled among children and adolescents since 1980." Well, DUH! That happens when you change the rules!

The list of those overweight include Dubya Bush, Lance Armstrong — and in fact, most participants in the Tour De France. At 6' tall, I'm overweight too, in spite of the fact that my abs are flat, my butt is firm, and I ride 80+ miles in a day with no serious ill effects. At 210 pounds, I must lose 25 pounds to be "normal" (some will say I need many more changes than just weight loss to be "normal"). In fact, I'm only a few pounds from "obese".

I prefer the term “prosperous looking.”

We live in a country where “everybody has too much food” is the sort of problem we obsess over. Better than the alternative if you ask me......

50% of Europeans are already obese.

The standards by which men and women are judged “obese” are the same (no distinction between optimal weight for a man or woman).

The BMI is questionable science. But the MSM loves these “fat cat” stories about American sloth and gluttony.

John Edwards encountered morbidly obese people on his “poverty” tour.

I'm ALREADY overweight, so I don't see how this warning does me any good at all.

Plus these "statistics" are based on the "Mass-Body Index", or whatever it's called, where a normal guy who is 5'-9" and 163 is "overweight", because their table says he should only weight 160.

Not to put too fine a point on it... but

Shouldn't that read
"25 Percent of U.S. Adults Will Be Underweight by 2015, Study Says"

Just asking.

There was a positive voice on NPR (there's always the exception) in a Indian (dot) computer programmer who came to the US to make good.

"Why did you choose America?" opined the perky NPR newsbabe.

"I wanted to live in a country where the poor people were fat." says he.

This is the land where the Socialists whine about living conditions...and the poverty level usually includes a color TV and a good VCR. God Bless America, says I.

Of course you know that this is an agenda by certain people to sell more diet plans and pills.

It is also a tool used by the left to fulfill their hidden agendas to debase America and make the citizens feel were no better than the rest of the world.

Another words being overweight instead of being looked upon as a sign of prosperity is looked down on as one more thing to dislike about ones country and self.

It’s like those stoopid PETA nuts saying a person cannot love the environment if they consume meat.

This is wonderful news! It means that statistically, a quarter of me will be thin in eight years!

“Of course you know that this is an agenda by certain people to sell more diet plans and pills.”

Plus those who get government funding to work in obesity issues.

The BMI calculators on the Internet are always on pages belonging to diet plans, obesity clinic, bariatric surgery clinic, or a government agency that is seeking more funding.
