Russia will veto any U.N. Security Council resolution on Kosovo that is unacceptable to Serbia, a senior Russian official said Thursday.
The statement by Boris Gryzlov, the speaker of Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, was the strongest sign yet that Russia is set on rejecting the final version of a U.S.-European Union U.N. draft resolution that it contends is a hidden route to the Serbian province's independence.
"In the case that the resolution is put to a vote, Russia will use its veto right," Gryzlov said. He added that Kosovo's independence "would represent a fuse that would ignite several conflicts in different parts of the world."
Gryzlov was in Montenegro as part of a tour of the region seeking support for Russia's position.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, meanwhile, indicated that the U.S. was ready to recognize Kosovo even without U.N. backing.
"We are committed to an independent Kosovo and we will get there one way or another," Rice told reporters en route to Lisbon, Portugal, where she is to attend the Quartet meeting for Middle East peace.

Ping!
It is a stain on our nation’s honor that we are so wrong on this issue and that it is only the Russians who are standing against this great injustice.
I cannot agree more! On this issue, Russia is spot-on.
My guess - promise of Kosovo independence was slipped into his speech in the very last moment and whole "watch story" was deliberate distraction. The footage of Albanian News 24 showing scuffle and watch dissapearance was shot from camera angle shooting downwards, it could not be done without Secret Service giving approval, because it is security risk.
Can someone find verbatim what W said on the press conference in Tirana? I have lost URL. This is of utmost imprtance.
The US State Department is completly incompetent. Any success they have ever had has been entirely by accident or due to an outside influence. (Ronald Reagan, GWBush)
[”Can someone find verbatim what W said...”]
How about the following:
G.W. Bush: “First of all, I don’t think I called for a deadline, I thought I said (timetable),” Bush said.
Responding to the reporter, who could not be heard, Bush responded, “I did, what exactly did I say? I said deadline? OK ... Then I meant what I said.”
The main reason for DC following what the albanians want is their HUGE lobby in the US - which adds up to mucho $$$.
Whilst the Serbs may be loud - they do not donate (read: pay off) the kind of $$ that the Shqiptars do.
Kosovars are eagerly anticipating a decision by the world. And at the same time ... we need to make sure the Serbs see a way forward, Mr. Bush said.
Talks on the future status of Kosovo must have the goal of "certain independence," Mr. Bush said Sunday, reiterating Washington's support for eventual statehood for the Serbian province.
"The question is whether there's going to be endless dialogue on a subject that we've already made up our mind on," Mr. Bush told reporters after meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha. "I'm worried about expectations not being met in Kosovo. And therefore we'll push the process."
"Sooner rather than later you've got to say, 'Enough's enough. Kosovo's independent,'" Mr. Bush said.
Was that what you were looking for?
I politely disagree that Neocon is a code word for Jews! This misconception is spread by neocons themselves as additional layer of deception to shield them from public scrutiny. Althogh some of the most prominent Neocons are Jewish Americans, it is irrelevant -the majority of PNAC are not.
What is relevant is their neo-con ideology, a mix bag of ex-Trotskyst garbage and doctrine of deception of philospher Leo Strauss.
A frightening mix, more dangerous than undiluted communism.
Here on FR, You can never have an open discussion with a Neocon regarding Kosovo - they choose to keep silent, because speaking up would expose them of what they really are.
No. This is media cut and paste report using Rome speech as well. I am looking for the exact words what Bush has said when journalists asked him did he really meant independence for Kosovo. It was after the meeting with Moisiu, not before. In Tirana or in Fushe Kruje. He did say something like "well, if I really said it, then I mean it".
I'll do the googling and will let you know.
Fair enough but I've had far too many people say it as they were bashing the neocons to believe it isn't true. You know, they slam the neocons and then whisper and wink that it's "code" for the Jewish new world order conspiracy. It makes me sick.
Besides that though - I totally agree that the WORLD with the exception of the Orthodox community and Russia (as a nation) are on the wrong side as far as Kosovo-Metohija is concerned. The scary thing is that when one really looks into all that has gone on there - from well before the late 1990's - it makes ZERO sense to be on the side of the Shqiptars. None at all.
We have faith in Vladimir Putin-——it seems that he alone has taken up the mantle for the protection for Christian peoples in Europe.
Thanks, yes, that's the quote. Quite a difference between timetable and deadline.
DTA: Here’s where I got the quote from.

What or who do you have to vote for or what do Americans have to do to get on the right side of this one??
