Alongside next summer's return of "Indiana Jones 4," Steven Spielberg's upcoming adaptation of "Team of Rivals" (about the political career of President Abraham Lincoln) is consistently one of the more popular projects he has in development at this time.
While Spielberg's take on one of American history's most revered figures has been pushed back to accommodate one of American pop culture's most celebrated figures (Indiana Jones, of course!), the Lincoln project is still in serious development, and we can now officially say that things have taken a brilliant turn.
Over the project's long-gestation, "Gladiator" screenwriter John Logan has had the closest public association with the property, but now, "Munich's" Oscar-nominated screenwriter Tony Kushner is officially on the job.
DreamWorks told us today that the project still doesn't have a solid timeline, as much depends on Kushner's work and Steven Spielberg's schedule post-"Indiana Jones 4." Still, if the news of Kushner's involvement on the film doesn't bring the Lincoln project to an even more exciting plateau for you, then you really need to go back and look at Kushner's brilliant work on "Munich."
Stick with us for more Lincoln news as it develops!
Did you read the book? It was excellent.
Kushner also wrote the book and lyrics for "Caroline or Change," which I recently saw in a Dallas production. Excellent performances; dull, didactic and pretentious book. In fact, "dull, didactic and pretentious" should be printed on his business cards, since those seem to be the hallmarks of all his work. Easily the most over-praised writer working today.
BTW, I don't know how anyone can sit through "Angels in America" or its interminable sequel, Perestroika," which together run about seven hours. Especially since most of the audience members already have sore rear ends.
Turn murdering thugs into poor helpless victims. Ya... now that's just f'n brilliant.
and you the never to talk about other people distorting history.
"Civil a War, not so good!"
Only among those completly ignorant of American history --- but I guess that would be a majority of today's population.
The parallels between the Democrats of the 1850s and 60s and todays Democrats are stunning.
LOL!
Now that's funny!
"I just can't quit you, Abe !"
Speaking of "Brokeback Mountain", one of the few funny scenes on the Tina Fey-era "Weekend Update" was when SNL played an actual clip of Lindsey Graham whining about some defense Bill. As soon as the clip ended, Tina said (with Lindsey's voice): "I just can't quit you, Mr. President."
Tony Kushner is the biggest fraud going. “Angels in America” and his other stage plays are all hype, and he ruined the Munich story. Might as well have signed John Wilkes Booth for the rewrite.
Wow, so you’re the one who still watches SNL ? ;-)
I think “Weekend Update” jumped the shark after Lorne Michaels allowed Norm MacDonald to get $hitcanned by Dick Ebersol, all because he was one of the few people with the courage to boldly and unapologetically proclaim O.J. Simpson a multiple murderer (Ebersol’s best buddy at NBC) on network tv. I guess they just couldn’t take having a naturalized Canadian citizen who was... gasp... a Conservative Republican. Even Dennis Miller couldn’t get hired on SNL today.
Interesting the pathological (and in Booth’s case, murderous) hatred of Republicans by some actors goes back to the very start of the party. In those days, stage actors, and today, tv and film actors.
Booth’s assassination of Lincoln today would be the equivalent of Tom Hanks killing Dubya.
I watched Spielberg on TCM last week. The show was devoted to his films. I consider myself a film buff but I do not particularly like mainstream commercial fare. I checked IMDB and the only Spielberg films that I have seen are Duel, Sugarland Express, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the last Indiana Jones film that had one of my favorite actors Sean Connery in it. Some guy named Hanks sure has made a lot of films for Speilberg, oh well maybe I will catch him sometime in a film that appeals to me.
You mean besides Wikipedia being run by rabid leftists, who tend to post inaccurate information as if it were fact?
But Wikipedia occassionally does have some good stuff.
As for the official reason, take it up with JimRob, FR's his baby and he calls the shots.
Liam Neeson’s a superb actor . . . but has any actor ever done a believable job of portraying Lincoln?
Agreed.
Wonder how they’ll portray Lincoln’s conflict with the Northern Copperhead Democrats whose position and tactics during the Civil War looked a lot like those of modern Democrats regarding the war in Iraq.
Assuming he even mentions them, that is.
DiLorenzo? Factual?? ROTFLMAO!!!
