Debka’s right about 15% of the time. Just enough to keep you thinking it’s possible.
Interesting that the media played up the three repetitions of one line in Zawahiri’s last message. They were afraid it might be a coded signal for an attack.
Another poster on another thread (don’t have time to search) pointed out that the quotation was from one of the last messages from Mohammed telling his followers that he might not be around long.
I think it was Zawahiri’s good-bye speech...

But DEBKA has scooped other news sources before. I think they post every rumor they come across, and every now and then one of them is true.
I say we start a thread on what the Dems would say if it’s true.

The article at least sounds plausible given the events in Pakistan. The pressure on Mushariff to clean out the rats nests in the NW Frontier is probably now greater than the pressure to let it be.
Can’t vouch for Debka (an understatement), but I do recall that in the final hours of the Red Mosque seige, there were several mentions that the only people remaining alive in inside were non-Pakistani Arabs. Some kids who were being held hostage said the Arabs were with them in the basement, then they were suddenly gone, apparently through a tunnel to an adjacent property.
So the notion that these guys were mostly al Qaeda (which I heard and read being expressed by Pakistanis) is likely to be true.
The only people supporting and celebrating the actions of the Red Mosque terrorists were the (primitive and barbaric) Waziris, who were being roundly criticized by other Pakistanis (my news sources that day had been FR, the realtime forum at paktribune.com, and a couple English-language realtime news feeds from Pakistani TV).
Bottom line is that AQ has probably lost a great deal of sympathy in Pakistan, at least among thinking people.
Anything is possible, especially from DEBKA.
Well, taking into consideration that it’s Debka, my hopes of catching either of these two demons just went up by .02%
Given that Zawahiri is comfortable enough to release daily videos (during the Red Mosque siege he was responding to events almost the same day), I don’t think he’s in any serious danger.
On the other hand, the siege and subsequent attacks may have convinced secular Pakistan that it’s fighting for its life, and may have to attack accordingly.
Early reports confirm they’re somewhere on Earth.

It may not be a coincidence that they have doubled the bounty of OBL to $50 million.

I can’t put my finger on it, but I get the sense that military intelligence is very close to catching OBL. I have never posted my intuitions before, but occasionally they’ve been on target, no worse in accuracy than Debka. So I’m posting this time as a record in case this comes to pass some time in the next month.
