? Hindu cleric Rajan Zed turns toward protester as he prepares to open Senate with prayer (CNN)
Three protesters interrupted a Hindu cleric today who became the first from his religion to offer the Senate's opening prayer.
Breitbart.tv has video of Rajan Zed, director of interfaith relations at a Hindu temple in Reno, Nev., preparing to pray when a clear, loud voice came from the Senate gallery.
"Lord Jesus, forgive us, Father, for allowing the prayer of the wicked, which is an abomination in your sight," said a male protester.
The Senate's sergeant at arms was instructed to restore order, but Zed was interrupted again.
"You shall have no other gods before you. "
Zed, who was invited by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, finally offered his prepared prayer.
"We meditate on the transcendental glory of the deity supreme, who is inside the heart of the Earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of the heaven," he said. "May he stimulate and illuminate our minds."
Police officers arrested the three protesters and charged them with disrupting Congress, a misdemeanor, the Associated Press reported. The male protester told an AP reporter, "we are Christians and patriots" before officers handcuffed them and led them away.
Reid, in remarks from the chamber shortly after the prayer, defended his choice, tying it to the intense debate over the Iraq war.
"If people have any misunderstanding about Indians and Hindus, all they have to do is think of Gandhi," a man "who gave his life for peace," Reid said.
"I think it speaks well of our country that someone representing the faith of about a billion people comes here and can speak in communication with our heavenly Father regarding peace," said Reid.
The AP said Capitol police identified the protesters as Ante Nedlko Pavkovic, Katherine Lynn Pavkovic and Christan Renee Sugar.
Probably some DU actipervs pretending to be Christian.
LOL! Your are correct.
Bow down before your elephant god.
an elephant God named Ganesha with special powers. and there’s a man God named Jesus who was born to a virgin mother. He was killed, and then was ressurected. He could also perform miracles.
based on these characteristics, neither one’s existence can be believed or proved more than the other. but that’s not the point.... they are part of the same system, and that is a system beyond the limited words of “Christianity” or “Hinduism”
Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting “Jesus Christ,” so that it would read “A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;” the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.

You should read the book “The Gandhi Nobody Knows” http://history.eserver.org/ghandi-nobody-knows.txt
It is eye opening.
It is inexcusable to interrupt religious ceremonies, even if they aren't yours. "You who hate idols, why do you rob temples?" (Rom 2:22). Sacrilige to other's deeply-held beliefs is not justified Christianity. Instead, it is either insecurity or false piety.
“above the law”
How do they think that?
Also, if man’s law is immoral or evil, should we follow it? Should the illegality of Christianity in Red Russia been followed because it is law? Was the Hindu prayer not blasphemy? Should Christians remain silent as their God is mocked?
Truth wins over law.
Also, did you read the letter? It is clearly stated that it is a brotherly reprimand, that Dobson is a dear Christian brother, and they are sorry to have to call him out.
Being a good Christian does not mean you should never be corrected for wrongs.
Yep, Jesus never was disrupting nor was Paul. /sarc
There is a difference between feeling abused and standing up for the one true God, the creator of the universe.
wrong... listen to the latest BEL at kgov.com
Wassamatter. Don’t you believe in diversity and multiculturalism even if it destroys our country?
Amen to that!
They worship the great Me Me Me is what it is.
I see that so many Free Republic posters, being raised in a post sixties culture, find it only "fair" that we must artificially introduce a Hindu prayer into a government proceeding because after all we have had almost four hundred years of American will and insistance that Christian prayers be included into nearly all government proceedings, and that's just not fair.
The American people did not ask for a Hindu prayer, but then again they did not ask for having homosexuality forced upon their children in their schools either -- and a lot of other liberal social engineering.
But according to the anti-christian left, all these new left "get-even-with-thems" are only fair and should be used as a way to reinvent the American culture by whittling down the influence of Christianity voluntarily passed down as inheritance from parent to child.
This is just another variation of the fairness doctrine, only in this case the affirmative action has a thin veil over it and makes the neo-open-minded feel like a proud, liberated, twenty-first century 'renaissance man'.
My choice would be the opposite of yours. I'd say bring 'em all on, and let's deal with the lot. Truth has a chance to trump falsehood in an open forum, and courage will always raise eyebrows.
And yes, if the paganism got too obnoxious, I would wear earplugs if I didn't want to hear it.
That's better than living a public life that's been boiled, sterilized, and scrubbed of every reference to God, religion, spirit and heart.
Let the Hindus pray. Proportional to the population, for the next 50 weeks it'll be the Christians' turn.
I don't know, but the Indian Parliament did give several top awards of Mother Teresa, who spoke to them, of course, in the name of Jesus.
The shouters embarrassed Christians who understand liberty. And courtesy.
