What's with Laura Ingraham? This morning Peggy Noonan wrote an op ed which included the following criticism of President Bush:
"Every major domestic initiative of his second term has been ill thought through and ended in failure. His Iraq leadership has failed. His standing is lower than any previous president's since polling began.",
Laura loved Noonan's op ed. Go gal, kick him when he's down.
Ingraham is taking herself too seriously. Yesterday she was aghast over security chief Chertoff's "gut feeling." I don't know why. I would appreciate any source regarding security even Chertoff's gut. She also found Chertoff less than handsome. What a cheap shot.
Ingraham lost me when she went over to the dark side on the Foley scandal. She thought Hastert should have resigned for not protecting male pages from gay congressmen.
Bill Kristol,yesterday on her show, suggested that now is the time that talk show hosts should support the president. His comment went right over her head.
Sure the illegals and the border are SERIOUS problems, but I have lived near the border and dealt with alot of them over the years and many, apart from their illegal status, are more of a contribution to our nation than some of the child molestin' dope smoking pond scum that are native born Americans. Besides a large portion of illegal population came here legally and are here on expire visas.
That's the reason why I stayed out of the debate. There was alot of blather on both sides. It was poorly debated and too emotionally charged to discuss rationally. Even now, a week or so after the bill was buried, people don't want to let it go. Amazing...
But, I never have high hopes for any POTUS. Even at his best the man is still a sinner and has his faults. Later.

In a word, they are human.
I try not to get too upset when they fail to deliver all that they promise or let me down. Heck, I let my wife and family down alot. I can't imagine what comes across his desk every day and he has no one to pass the buck to.
I guess I'm trying to say that praying for the man helps alot. It may not make the guy a better president but it keeps things in perspective for me.
I would agree with you on Miers. But, God works in mysterious ways. Ike thought that Justice William Brennan was a conservative Catholic when he nominated him for the court and many agreed with him. Little did he know how he would vote on the Court.
Actually, Noonan’s columns right after 9-11 were highly complimentary toward Bush. She admired his feistiness and determination and suggested he might be a great president.
She’s probably been greatly disappointed as have many of us. I don’t think she cares for his grandiose schemes to intervene all over the world establishing democracy and trying to create utopias in dusty hell holes. It’s Wilsonian idealism run amuck.
You are so right about Bush’s inability to communicate. In press conferences, he sounds like he has memorized two or three talking points about an issue and that’s all he knows. He repeats the same obvious points and can’t go beyond them. He has a few slogans he likes and he repeats them ad nauseum, e.g. “Freedom isn’t America’s gift to the world; it’s God’s gift to humanity.” I think he came up with that himself and he was so pleased with it he repeated it endlessly. What does that mean? That he thinks he’s an agent of the Almighty spreading freedom all over the world regardless of the cost in blood and treasure? It’s grandiose crap in my opinion.
To paraphrase Reagan:
“The conservative base didn’t leave Bush, Bush left the conservative base.” A long time ago.
George Washington said, "Guard against postures of pretended patriotism." Your position as an uncritical, unthinking follower is more rightly called that of a Loyalist, not a Patriot.
To propose that Rudy Guiliani be Vice President, one heartbeat away from being President of the United States, is truly frightening and reveals what your true standards are, pragmatism over principle. Not only is this position wrong but it belies your pretentiously self proclaimed status as a "patriot".
People like me are “The Conservative Base.” Bush wasn’t my first choice in 2000, but he was better than McCain and Forbes was probably unelectable. Even though I haven’t agreed with all of Bush’s proposals and policies he has more or less done what he said he would do. I could have lived without McCain-Feingold, Prescription Drugs, and much of the domestic spending but in some areas Bush has been even better than Reagan. He’s been solid on taxes and the economy is doing well. I think he has done about as well as could be expected in the war especially considering how Clinton, Gore, or Kerry would have done.
All that being said this thread isn’t about Bush. It’s about Laura Ingraham and Peggy Noonan and how they, and others of our esteemed conservative punditry, are letting us down. Let’s be honest with ourselves, there are no perfect politicians, no perfect pundits, and no perfect conservative base.
The problem with Ingraham and Noonan is that they really believe they are smarter than Bush. Now, Bush may not be a genius, but compared to these two he looks pretty damn sharp. They are both one trick ponies. Ingraham is just another lawyer and Noonan writes flowery prose. That’s all. I’ve learned to discount everything Ingraham says that isn’t in the legal field and when I read Noonan I do it just for the way she says it, not for what she says.
On the tax cuts, Bush has not tried to push, himself, to make them permanent. I remember his SS pitch. He didn’t do a very good or convincing job in selling SS reform. He was criticised for his sales pitch.
Yes, he went around the country to sell it, but once again, that is one of Bush’s problems, always has been. Maybe it isn’t all his fault as far as the communication, but he still is the boss and he has never had a very good PR team.

Her voice, to be sure, is a bit offputting. Her speech has no feminine softness and is characterized by a very prominent nasality. Both could be corrected by voice training.
As I read comments and check enrollment dates, it looks like there are a lot of newbies jumping in to blast Laura. Makes me wonder if these are Klintonista Klan folks trying to drive wedges in every place they can on our side.

You can argue certain points about his record, but why quibble about what he's achieved? The fact is we do have tax cuts which certainly would never have happened under Gore or Kerry and probably not under a bunch of Rinos. We've had the fight against terror, tax cuts, conservative justices, attempt at social security reform, the faith-based initiatives, and many on this forum call him a liberal as if any liberal or Dem would have attempted or achieved what Bush has. It's ridiculous.
Apparently many people on this forum have the all or none attitude towards Bush. If they find fault with one part of his program (like his immigration reform bill which went down to a well deserved defeat), they condemn him entirely and forget the good he's achieved.
I do not hate him. He is right on the war on terror.
Many people do what they think to be right, that does not mean it is right. It means they do what they have bought into to be right.
I am probably different than most. I hate what Bush is doing on the spp, NAU thinking. I also think he is doing what he is being conditioned to think is right.
That is what causes the bad feelings toward Bush. He does not see what we all see. He just sees things as he has learned to be the path of the future.
Unfortunatly, it is a total disconnect with the masses.
Sometimes people are in defensive mode with politicians of their own party and sometimes they feel so jerked around they cut them loose. Now you can call it "Bush fatigue." The President's father used that phrase to Larry King.
Laura Ingraham on her worst day would be a better President than George Bush on his best. In case you haven’t noticed, the vending machine’s been out of kool aid for a long time now.
