Senior U.S. intelligence officials tell ABC News new intelligence from Afghanistan suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the United States, or may already be here.
The White House has convened an urgent multi-agency meeting for Thursday afternoon to deal with the new threat.
Top intelligence and law enforcement officials have been told to assemble in the Situation Room to report on:
--what steps can be taken to minimize or counter the threat,
--and what steps are being taken to harden security for government buildings and personnel.
"It suggests they have information that the cell or cells coming this direction want to attack a government facility," Brad Garrett, a former FBI agent and ABC News consultant, said.
Law enforcement officials say the recent failed attacks in London have provided important new clues about possible tactics.
And officials say the London attackers use of the Internet left important clues that are being used to decode other e-mails that had initially been deemed unimportant but are now taking on new significance.

Gee ya think they might wanna check the KNOWN Al Qaeda camps that keep popping up on maps all over the place? They know where they are, as well as the Hamas ones, and every other cells camps. They shouldn’t be allowed, and our Govt is to blame for the fact that they are.
Stop making this about the border.. This President has more to stake in the GWOT then anyone else. He takes it personally. The last Al-Qaeda cell the ones that hit us on 911 well they largel had Visas and came here legally... So don’t pander that secure the border and we’ll be safe crap.

I've been seeing them around for years. The year after 911, I was camping in San Diego... Campland on the Bay and there were 8 single middle eastern men camping in our row. I was walking the dog and they gave me dirty looks. Some were dressed like imams the rest looked normal. The trailer next to ours was playing that whiny Arab music.
Another time a friend of ours was hosting a Turkish student at their home. Come to find out they were going back and forth across the Mexican border in a taxi. I reported that one to the FBI.
San Diego is full of terrorists and there is a mosque in the Clairemont area ( where one of the 911 perps came from) that has influenced the area so you don't recognize it anymore. Even the local college is hosting 'Islamic Awareness' clubs. Half the students wear the hajab. Even WalMart has employees wearing a black veil over the face.
Tell me they aren't here.
Internment camps I think will make a comeback. Really I do, especially when its found after any futuristic attacks the Muslims involved have been here for years, have public jobs and passed security checks.
WE Have already been invaded.
And that will be our downfall.
No good - Koran gives Muzzies permission (even encourages them) to lie as a tactic.... there is really no way to assure yourself of the ultimate loyalty of a Moslem.
If this is soooo serious, why are they waiting until Thursday to discuss the matter? Apparently, it is not important enough. They are the ones who have their little bunkers while the rest of us are in our homes just wondering........
