“Once the mob found out Fred was not the “perfect Messiah”, they cried out “Crucify him!”

The calculation that many conservatives are making is that a likable, electable nominee who is 80% conservative ... but has a penchant for communicating common sense conservatism to Joe Citizen ... is better than a 100% guy who who demonstrates little or no appeal to non-ideological voters and centrists.

TRANSLATION: Fred can beat Hillary and her flying monkeys with both hands tied behind his back.

He disappointed conservatives during his eight years in the Senate. Is there any reason to think this Washington insider and veteran trial lawyer would be any better as President?

When I found out he was CFR, that did it for me. All we need is another globalist like Bush in office. Their goal is a one world order, and that means we lose our sovereignty. NO THANKS!

Vote for Duncan Hunter. A true conservative!

Problem is, when it comes to serious folks who know how to run a campaign, the pickings are pretty darned slim. I’m not going to fault the guy for hiring a couple of people who worked for Bush at one time—campaign directors, etc., are a revolving door.

From the National Rifle Association to the Sierra Club, from Right to Left, these groups call incumbents on the carpet. So the incumbents pass laws to restrict the activities of these groups.

**************

OK, let's look at Fred's position regarding the Second Amendment:

Fred Thompson on Gun Control

Allowing concealed carry could have limited VA Tech massacre. (Apr 2007)

Voted NO on background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)

Voted NO on more penalties for gun & drug violations. (May 1999)

Voted YES on loosening license & background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)

Voted YES on maintaining current law: guns sold without trigger locks. (Jul 1998)

No flames from me. I think there are some important questions that need to be adressed.

Anybody can belong to CFR. Some companies enroll all their employees. You may be a member and not even know it.

Thank you for posting this interesting and useful article. I am not so sure about Viguerie’s character, but he is certainly a studied conservative ideologue and he has provided a lot of important information here.

Be warned: I am armed and have this deeply honed instinct to shoot back.

Be prepared to seek cover.

When he was first elected in the Republican sweep of 1994, he was seen then as the “new Reagan”—a charismatic movie star turned politician.

snip

He turned out to be a shooting star—a dazzling flash in the sky, soon gone,

snip

For six of his eight years as a Senator

Right there, the writer lost credibility with me. From there on, everything he wrote was subject to: "I wonder who he's backing and feels that Fred is a threat to be eliminated?" "Soon gone"??? He neglected to add that Fred was REELECTED to a new term in even bigger record numbers! He likely would have been so reelected in 2002, leaving office in Jan 2003 after 11 years in office= but he had just lost a child and decided not to pursue another campaign. Personal tragedy can slow one down for a bit.

So this blatant omission about Fred's runaway success in being elected to a second term - and serving 11 years in the senate - negates anything else he has to say.

It just smacks of the Republicans biggest handicap - shooting their own.

And sorry, Bachert, your disclaimer "I'm only the messenger here." doesn't hold water. You post a diatribe against Thompson that is less than honest and claim immunity. Nope.

This is the drive-by shooting tactic one is used to from the left.

You obviously have another horse in the race...and seem to be as intellectually dishonest as the writer. No pass...

Thanks for the info.

I feel like the media is defining for us who the most likely nominees are — Rudy, Romney, and McCain. Do you know anyone who is passionate about McCAIN!? Don’t believe anyone who says Hunter, Tancredo, or Huckabee can’t win.

Since Goldwater, all prez elections have come down to who you gonna vote AGAINST!

As I recall there were some pretty solid reasons for Conservatives to vote for Dutch.

Oh no, don’t upset that cart...

I get a kick out of the ruckus over the all powerful CFR. It’s a damn country club of a think tank with people from every side as members.

Its more like a university than anything else. Liberal yahoos do all the publishing but that does not mean there are no conservatives on campus, they just have better things to be doing.

If you drive on the loop in DC you have a 50/50 chance of getting a membership in the CFR by default, more if you carry American Express...

Seems like shooting their own is what the Thompsonites are doing to a guy like Hunter, shooting him with the bullet of UNELECTABLE.
