The only Presidential wife I've had a quarrel with is Hillary. Between youth and evil, I'll pick youth.

I know that eventually there is going to be some criticism lobbed towards Fred Thompson for having a wife 25 years his junior.
In my book, however, it doesn't matter. They're happy and they're faithful to each other and seem to be happy. As far as the age difference, all that's worth in my book is a big 'way to go Fred'.

it's been decades since we've had a presidential candidate from a southern state whose way of asking a woman out on a date wasn't to just drop his pants and say "How 'bout a smooch for lil' Bubba?"

This article is disgusting, and it’s from a supposedly sympathetic source. The woman is hardly a bimbo — she is a lawyer and was a Republican operative before marrying Fred.

The age of his wife does not bother me so much but the idea that his mother-in-law is 4 years younger than him is a little creepy.

Well, at least we’re talking about a spouse of the opposite sex. Among the Dems, it appears that one of the candidates is married to a member of the opposite sex merely in order to keep up appearances.

They seem to have a great relationship. A trophy wife means your wife is more decorative than meaningful.

I don’t think the media was too concerned about a trophy husband running for president in 2004.

Laura Bush was branded a lowly librarian too. I feel sorry for the spouses/family of a politician.

I’ve always thought Laura Bush a “trophy wife”, but that’s just me I guess.

Grover Cleveland was 48 when he was sworn in as President, and about a year later he married a 21 year old.
That’s a 27 year difference...

By the looks of things, he finished 3rd or 4th...

According to the Times, Fred Thompson is close to smashing through a barrier a "glass ceiling" if you will, that has yet to be broken in the more than two-century history of the United States presidency. This is with the possible exception of Dolley Madison, who was 17 years younger than James. Age differential aside, a woman who ends up with snack cakes named in her honor is a trophy indeedWell good to see WND is still lacking in their historical knowledge (among other things)....President John Tyler was in his 50s when he married his second wife who was in her early 20s, while he was in office. About a 30 year difference. The First Lady for two years was under 25 years old.

It’s insulting to call her a “trophy wife”. And what does age difference have to do with anything? If he had an adulterous relationship with her while married then that would be a serious character flaw to look into, but for the press to grab onto a minor age difference (she isn’t 25 for goodness sakes) is just petty.
