According to the Times, Fred Thompson is close to smashing through a barrier – a "glass ceiling" if you will, that has yet to be broken in the more than two-century history of the United States presidency. This is with the possible exception of Dolley Madison, who was 17 years younger than James. Age differential aside, a woman who ends up with snack cakes named in her honor is a trophy indeed

Well good to see WND is still lacking in their historical knowledge (among other things)....President John Tyler was in his 50s when he married his second wife who was in her early 20s, while he was in office. About a 30 year difference. The First Lady for two years was under 25 years old.

Good catch on the history! President Tyler had his last child when he was in his 70s. He had the most children of any President— I think it was 14 total, seven with each wife. As was pointed out, they also miss Grover Cleveland, whose wife was 21 years old, although he already was President when they married....
