Sunday July 8, 2007 - Breathed weighs in with his view of "Fred" as being less than Reagenesque.
My local rag a few months back started running an excreble comic called “The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee”, about a precocious 10 year-old boy and his daily rants against everything conservative. ‘Tis dreadfully banal and devoid of any trace of humor. I expect its first blast against FDT as soon as he announces.
I left Bloom County the day my beloved Bill the Cat and the dedicated and introspective Opus began wearing underware for everyone to see. All down hill from there.
Attack Number Two Against Republicans: Ummm, they're old.
Attack Number Three Against Republicans: Ummm, they're bigots.
Repeat as necessary until people are stupid enough to believe it.
I only read Opus when I glance down the page sometimes after reading Prince Valiant. The Daily News started carrying PV about 10 years ago, and I’ve hardly missed it. Well written.
“has to have at least one teen boy”
LOL I kept asking my son if he was writing “Zits” for a little extra income.
He jumped the shark with “Outland”, anyway.
I still love Bloom County, though.
My (nearly) 16 yo grandson loves Zits!
How ironic that both the left and the establishment Right are doing their best to sink Fred with two themes...one, that he’s too old (witness Breathed’s drawing of him as an un-engergetic, sagging ugly man), the other with the “trophy wife” meme. Despite all evidence to the contrary, Robert Novak continues to describe Thompson as dull and monotonous when the public clearly doesn’t see him that way. He’s pissed that his boy McCain is fading away.

I’ve tried the link twice and all I see is a green square.
Fred's cool. Not Reagan, but there can be only one.
My teenage-son points that comic out to me every Sunday. He doesn't have the girlfriend (yet) but he's a serious technogeek minus the band. It's sad that I empathize with the parents...!
Funny because I don’t remember “Opus” as thinking much of Reagan either.
The secret of Berke's success is he fires on all sides. His greatest moment was probably when "Doonesbury" completely jumped the shark: the Hart-Rice affair.
Trudeau, an obvious Hart sympathizer, did a boring series where a reporter character reflected on the role of the media. Breathed did a hilarious arc where heavy metal singer Bill the Cat was involved in a scandal where he was caught in "moral circumstances", meeting with a prim ex-nun.

Ok. I give up. Howdya pronounce “Berkeley Breathed”
The Far Fred Side...
Unfortunately, “Zits” is co-authored by Jim Borgman, a left-wing political cartoonist for our local rag, “The Cincinnati Enquirer”. His “cartoons” regularly attack President Bush and all things conservative. I enjoy “Zits”, but knowing who the author is kind of takes the fun out of it.
Ack
Try “Day by Day” by Chris Muir,
“Dry Bones” by Yaakov Kirschen
and,......
“The Mows” by Jay Dyke
