The gnats are flying thick, now that Fred is close to announcing. I used to like Bloom County, but I didn't leave it, it left me.

As it got more popular, Bloom County stopped being about boarding house operator Bess Bloom and her blood-and-guts veteran husband, and the societal contrast with their young idealistic grandkid and his friends. It became about Reagan-bashing, conservative-trashing, and stupid talking animals.

They’re enlisting every sphere of the left-wing media to attack Fred, what does that tell you? When was the last time the media seriously attacked Rudy McRomney, Ron Paul, or Ducan Hunter, much less the other munchkins?

I haven’t seen any funny comics since Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes. Pretty much stopped reading them after they quit.

If you have a teenage son try Zits. The guy that writes it has to have at least one teen boy living in his household. It hits close home almost every day at my house.

Get Fuzzy
Prickly City
NonSequiter
Sherman's Lagoon
And I still kinda like Opus
(You have to admit that the "God knows all your secrets" thing was funny)

Yawn, just more free publicity.
And Breathed ceased to matter once he ended Bloom County.

Agreed that Bloom County/Opus does it's share of conservative bashing, although I think it's smacked the left a bunch as well. I even kinda liked the Memorial Day edition...I thought it was "artistic" and played well to both the left and right.
That said, I think if Fred saw this week's strip I betcha he had a chuckle. When someone loses the ability to see and accept one's imperfections and laugh at them, a part of that person has died.
RR was a master at poking fun at his shortcomings.

I'm a Fred supporter, and I think Breathed hasn't been funny since Opus took over Bloom County--to be honest, I didn't even KNOW there was a strip called Opus, I thought there was that Sunday-only thing he guested in...
But...I didn't think this was an attack. It was just a comment on the whole "I'm Reaganesque" thing going on in our party.

Pretty pathetic. As a comix lover, I've gotten used to my politics and my religious beliefs being insulted, but there are a few, like B.C. and Mallard Fillmore, which helps to even things out. I don't know what keeps me from rioting and burning down buildings, guess it's my strength of character./s

I laughed. I will bet you that Fred Thompson laughed too.
I can guarantee you that President Reagan would have laughed!

Oh, I’m in the Hunter/Thompson camp - I hate the fights between the two sides here, and I want them _both_ to do well....
....but I also think this is a funny cartoon!
In the end, a President is rated more or less on his effectiveness in keeping the U.S., its citizens, and its core values safe. Of course, the voters can be swayed by other things, and Fred’s getting older, as we all are.
Get Fred on a treadmill and on a low-glycemic index diet, and some solid sleep, and he’ll have a better appearance in a month. Hunter had to go through the same thing - I’m pretty sure he’s shaped up since his announcement.
