Skeptical of Performers’ Motives, Public Tunes Out Live Earth Event
Rasmussen Reports ^ | July 08, 2007

Posted on 07/08/2007 10:38:38 AM PDT by bahblahbah

The Live Earth concert promoted by former Vice President Al Gore received plenty of media coverage and hype, but most Americans tuned out. Just 22% said they followed news stories about the concert Somewhat or Very Closely. Seventy-five percent (75%) did not follow coverage of the event.

By way of comparison, eight-in-ten voters routinely said they were following news coverage of the recent Senate debate over immigration. Fifty-four percent (54%) said they followed news coverage of the President’s decision to commute Scooter Libby’s sentence.

Skepticism about the participants may have been a factor in creating this low level of interest. Most Americans (52%) believe the performers take part in such events because it is good for their image. Only 24% say the celebrities really believe in the cause while another 24% are not sure. One rock star who apparently shared that view is Matt Bellamy of the band Muse. Earlier in the week, he jokingly referred to Live Earth as "private jets for climate change."

Only 34% believe that events like Live Earth actually help the cause they are intended to serve. Forty-one percent (41%) disagree. Those figures include 10% who believe the events are Very Helpful and 20% who say they are Not at All Helfpul. Adding to the skepticism, an earlier survey found that just 24% of Americans consider Al Gore an expert on Global Warming.

Given a choice of four major issues before the United States today, 36% named the war in Iraq as most important. Twenty-five percent (25%) named immigration, 20% selected the economy and only 12% thought Global Warming was the top issue.

Among political conservatives, Iraq (36%) and immigration (33%) were far and away the top issues. Only 6% named Global Warming.

Among liberals, 44% named Iraq as the top issue followed by the economy (27%), Global Warming (16%) and immigration (12%).

Earlier surveys show the public is divided as to the cause of Global Warming.

Slightly under half (46%) believe that Global Warming is caused primarily by human activities. A roughly equal number believe warming is either the result of long-term planetary trends (35%) of some other cause (8%). Eleven percent (11%) are not sure.

From what I saw we could do more to help the Earth if we could just find a way to shut Melissa Etheridge up.

You know when you see the LIVE(Fill-in-the-blank) Concert, an issue is headed for obscurity.

People who are inclined to care go to the concert, enjoy themselves, and think it is a good thing they solved whatever problem that was...

Everybody else just ignores them.

Nice to see that many sheeple are catching on and realizing that “global warming” is a scam. I also think people are somewhat reluctant to listen to a bunch of rich, hypocrite, retard celebrities lecture about “carbon footprint” when they fly around in private jets and own 10 houses.

In another poll, 99.9999% of the people have no idea what their bill will be to pay for the aging, liberal hippie douche Environmentalists’ utopia. 100% of the people will act like your cheapskate deadbeat friend when the $400 dinner tab comes...uh where is my wallet, oh, uhhh...

Right now it’s all talk and people are getting disinterested.

I watched a bit at the end of Sting’s performance, who is a talented musician. He was singing “Message in a Bottle” I think , performing with John Mayer, who is a talented guitarist ... then some no-talent Grade C-rapper jumped in and made it pathetic.

Cat Stevens supposed sang. He is now supposedly Yusef Islam. Let’s see, a man who supports a death warrant against Salmon Rushdie, and who is reportedly a supporter of terrorists/Islamists in the Middle East who wish to exterminate Israel. al-Gore thinks this man is worthy of respect and attention?

I noticed that there was not a single Live Earth event in any of the majority Muslim countries. Gee. Wonder why that is ? Why no Live Earth concert in Mecca ? Wonder what the Planet Earth is like in Mecca ? Is there pollution ?

OK, you wanna play that game, I will too. He might have sung "year of the crap" but her certainly DID NOT sign "Cats and the Dradle." You can't beat me. Don't try.
