FRED THOMPSON has decided not to declare his candidacy anytime soon, and it's not hard to see why...
Behind the scenes, Thompson and his die-hard supporters are quietly building a huge nationwide campaign for the White House.
In the past 10 days, "Fred's Fans" have:
* Raised more than $1 million with just two fund-raisers, including $300,000 in Atlanta last night.
* Hired key operatives around the country and are in talks with several more recently laid off by John McCain's crumbling presidential campaign.
* Made significant strides toward the nearly $5 million that Thompson's "First Day Founders" have committed to raising as seed money for a full-fledged presidential campaign.
In doing so, Thompson has shown he can raise as much cash as other Republicans who have been in the field for months, if not years...
McCain insiders admit that a major reason they are nearly broke with no real prospects for recovery is that they rushed out and bought a big national campaign way before they were in a position to pay for it.
Thompson isn't going to make that mistake...

If anyone wishes to see irrational hostility, just make a positive statement about Rudy and then watch the DU-like responses fly. Civility isn't a strong suit among some here on the FR.
Do these conciliatory comments also apply to Rudy?
Rudy is not a Conservative.
“....who will pick up the mantle of Reagan”
In November, 1967, Washington columnist Drew Pearson reported that two top Reagan aides had been forced to resign after they were discovered in a homosexual ring with teenage boys. California newspapers had suppressed the story at the request of Reagan’s press secretary, Lyn Nofziger, but when out-of-state publications Time and Newsweek hit the stands, Californians were confronted with the story—and with the governor’s denial of it. The credibility gap widened as Reagan hotly called Pearson a liar, then changed his tone and asked that the matter be quietly dropped.
In certain areas of legislation the Reagan administration proved progressive. In 1967 one of the most liberalized abortion bills in the U.S. became law in California
I post this NOT to sully Reagan(as I have been accused of before) ..but to demonstrate, that by our prayers and God’s grace, men can change. Reagan later admitted that signing that bill was a mistake.
I can’t argue with that. I am just glad the vicious Rudy threads are behind us here.
Supporting and voting to Thompson is not motivated by fear; his brand of popular conservatism plays well coast-to-coast. And will cross party lines. A fact soon realized.
"..how about we work to bring such a world closer to reality."
From what i've read the other posters are attempting that with you. Politcal parties do not nominate members from the House for President. You're gonna need a Plan B. Soon.
I saw the first one also yesterday on an SUV in Miami.
There are a few good conservatives falling for the Hillary tripe, mostly because they support this or that other candidate. Certainly, it isn’t going to stick to FDT one bit. I hope those who fall for it come to their senses quickly.
The Clintons and their leftist media bilge might create a minor headache for us to deal with. But that’s just politics.
Still, we’ve got to be smarter. We’ve got to see through the garbage. Remember, Hillary knows she cannot beat FDT in the general election. So she is doing everything she can imagine to try and derail him in the GOP primaries.
If we see through the Clinton tactics, their pathetic smear campaign will not help them one bit. And nobody in the world can be better at seeing through the Clintons than FReepers, who have been at it longer than anyone else.
Hey! Take it easy! Duncan Hunter would make a great VEEP for Fred! Duncan can deliver California for us! ;-)
“the same candidate whos hired an open homosexual as a senior advisor ‘
So fags shouldn’t have jobs, no matter their skills?
No thanks. We have enough people on welfare as it is.
How’s he going to ‘deliver California’?
The story peddled by the liberals is that Fred lobbied White House official John L. Sununu on behalf of some pro-abortion group. But Sununu says, I dont recall him ever lobbying me on that at all. I dont think that ever happened. In fact, I know that never happened.
What does Fred have to say? Contrasted with the off-hand denial you "quote", Thompson spokesman Mark Corallo said, Fred Thompson did not lobby for this group, period.
My advice is you should cease and desist with this crap.
Isn’t Duncan a Congresscritter from California?
Well, he is...but the question remains: How’s Hunter going to deliver CA?
Yeah, but he’s from one small part of California. He’s never run a statewide race and the most hopeful poll I’ve seen of his had him at 11% or something like that in CA.
If Duncan could actually deliver California, there’d be a heck of a lot more people on his bandwagon. It would make him an instant national shoe-in.
” Does Campaign Finance Reform apply, since hes not a candidate (yet)? I hope not. That would be sweet payback for McCain. “
That’s pretty much it. The donation limits apply, but the reporting requirements do not, at the “testing the waters” phase.
