How Fred's Turning Into a $tealth GOP Powerhouse
New York Post ^ | July 7, 2007 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 07/07/2007 6:55:52 AM PDT by Josh Painter

FRED THOMPSON has decided not to declare his candidacy anytime soon, and it's not hard to see why...

Behind the scenes, Thompson and his die-hard supporters are quietly building a huge nationwide campaign for the White House.

In the past 10 days, "Fred's Fans" have:

* Raised more than $1 million with just two fund-raisers, including $300,000 in Atlanta last night.

* Hired key operatives around the country and are in talks with several more recently laid off by John McCain's crumbling presidential campaign.

* Made significant strides toward the nearly $5 million that Thompson's "First Day Founders" have committed to raising as seed money for a full-fledged presidential campaign.

In doing so, Thompson has shown he can raise as much cash as other Republicans who have been in the field for months, if not years...

McCain insiders admit that a major reason they are nearly broke with no real prospects for recovery is that they rushed out and bought a big national campaign way before they were in a position to pay for it.

Thompson isn't going to make that mistake...

The one who accused FDT of lobbying for a “family planning” group is a leftist named Judith DeSarno who supports Hillary Clinton for President.

But I guess it’s not “the nature of the evidence”, just the “seriousness of the charge”, eh? Leaky Leahy would be proud.

I like Duncan Hunter. But I don’t think he’d be too proud of his supporters making baseless allegations against another conservative. Or, when they parrot the tripe from Hillary Clinton’s minions.

Hillary behind AP/LAT abortion story on Fred?

She may well be. The question is not whether she is behind it, but is it true...and if it's true, a more complete statement than "I have no recollection of that" is probably going to be necessary.

Read #39. This is primary season, which means it's question time. Remember 2000? Look what that got us.

Regardless of how truthful liberals are (not very), it's highly unlikely that this pro-abortion group drew Fred Thompson's name out of a hat fifteen years ago and falsely entered it in their minutes to guard against the possibility of his running for president in the future.

Can anyone tell me what exactly Fred allegedly did for this organization? Unless there are verified specifics this is a non-issue. It is hearsay and innuendos at this point, but front page news for the MSM. What exactly was it that they 'entered it in their minutes' supposedly.

YOU are not winning anyone over to Hunter with that petty post.

This would be Fred...the same candidate who’s hired an open homosexual as a senior advisor and has “no recollection” of lobbying in support of abortion?

No, this is the same Fred Thompson who judges his adviser based on his conservative credentials and not who they choose to sleep with (his adviser, after all, worked for Rick Santorum). This is also the same Fred Thompson who was accused of being pro-abortion by some obscure survey that he denied filling out from pretty much day one, but has been tacked to his butt by people who choose to only look at that and stay completely blind to his 100% pro-life voting record. That Fred Thompson.

Fred has done less? He got his name OUT THERE! While Duncan hid himself under a bushel basket. You are showing that you have scant understanding of national politics. We are not nominating the patron saint of the conservative movement here. We got to find a way to win with the shambles of the republican party.

It doesn’t bother you that you do a great deal of damage to Duncan Hunter’s election chances by badmouthing Fred? It definitely gives me a negative perception of Duncan Hunter.
Congrats!

i think that in quite a few instances, the candidates are much classier than their supporters on FR. both Hunter and Romney would be mortified at what some of their supporters are saying here.

That “open homosexual” happens to be one of the best in the business. Someone needs to exlain to you the difference between conservativtism and and irrational hostility

You know, I thought it was one of the fundamental traits of conservatism to look at the individual's merits and not just put everyone into a box and judge them based on the box (like liberals do)....

If you’ve got a picture of FDT waving a Mexican flag, you should post it. I’d like to see it.

Or, if you’ve got “minutes” that do anything more than mention FDT as one of the lawyers at a firm hired by a “family planning” group, please also post that.

In the mean time, consider what John Sununu (who FDT supposedly “lobbied”) said: “I know that never happened.”

Gasp! He associates with ho-mo-SEK-tuals!

. . . and has “no recollection” of lobbying in support of abortion?

Because only Hillary goons claim it happened, in the LAT.

Yep, that's him.

I can’t believe people are bringing up the lobbying charge.. that, like the ‘Aristide’ charge was debunked a long time ago as a myth; to the point that if someone starts a thread on it, the mods will kill the thread.

That's either senility, or they are weasel words. Take your pick.

You left out choice #3, the correct choice: LAT/AP are lying.
