FRED THOMPSON has decided not to declare his candidacy anytime soon, and it's not hard to see why...
Behind the scenes, Thompson and his die-hard supporters are quietly building a huge nationwide campaign for the White House.
In the past 10 days, "Fred's Fans" have:
* Raised more than $1 million with just two fund-raisers, including $300,000 in Atlanta last night.
* Hired key operatives around the country and are in talks with several more recently laid off by John McCain's crumbling presidential campaign.
* Made significant strides toward the nearly $5 million that Thompson's "First Day Founders" have committed to raising as seed money for a full-fledged presidential campaign.
In doing so, Thompson has shown he can raise as much cash as other Republicans who have been in the field for months, if not years...
McCain insiders admit that a major reason they are nearly broke with no real prospects for recovery is that they rushed out and bought a big national campaign way before they were in a position to pay for it.
Thompson isn't going to make that mistake...

This would be Fred...the same candidate who’s hired an open homosexual as a senior advisor and has “no recollection” of lobbying in support of abortion?

Let's see. Do you recall FDT lobbying for abortion? [Have you read Sununu's comments on the other thread this morning? Sununu would have been the object of lobbying on abortion. He says it didn't happen.] Do you have any copies of the billing records for this lobbying that you can show us? Or are facts based in reality even important to you?

“John McCain’s crumbling presidential campaign.”
Music to my ears.
By the way, I have 4 different Rugers to compliment my Kimber.
Love those Rugers.
It will be interesting to watch Fred Thompson run for president. He seems to be the kind of man that will speak his mind and we just might see some ingenuity where he uses such lines similar to Reagan's famous “I paid for this microphone, Mr. Green,”.

I saw my first Fred Thompson ‘08 bumper sticker on a P/U truck yesterday in a very liberal part of town. Can’t wait to get mine.

Who cares if he has an openly gay senior adviser (as long as the advisor's politics and thinking are sound the majority of the time on the given issues he advises on)...
Furthermore what is wrong if one during their life time has shown maturity and grown both spiritually and intellectually (as it may appear F. Thompson has done on the issue of abortion). That is not a weakness it is a strength.
The notion that everyone's politics should be form and perfect by the time they are in their 30s (with no need for change) is a silly notion / requirement.
And for the record I'm a fan of both FT and DH.

That “open homosexual” happens to be one of the best in the business. Someone needs to exlain to you the difference between conservativtism and and irrational hostility

Fred’s a good man and a master politician and lawyer. I have no problem supporting him if Hunter doesn’t pan out in the primaries. So, do we really have to go down this road by bashing him since it so counterproductive to the greater Conservative cause in 2008.

Nope. Then again, if I was a candidate running for president and the LA Tiimes accused me of being an abortion lobbyist, my reply would be a great deal stronger than "Gee, you know what, I don't ever remember doing that."
That's either senility, or they are weasel words. Take your pick. For the record, the facts matter a great deal to me. It's my goal to nominate a conservative candidate who will pick up the mantle of Reagan and look out for America.
At the present time, I believe that's Duncan Hunter and strongly support his candidacy. Should Fred convince me that he's a more solid conservative, I'll gladly switch. However, the case I currently see being made for Fred is "he's leading polls" or "people know him". This sounds suspiciously like the case that was being made for a certain Rudy Giuliani a few months back.

o, do we really have to go down this road by bashing
This isn't bashing - this is asking questions that need to be asked of any Republican party...regardless of which one such an article happened to mention.

Do these conciliatory comments also apply to Rudy?

I do. I've seen the sort of headway that the gay lobby has made in America, even under the so-called leadership of a conservative president and congress. They stand on the verge of accomplishing everything they've ever wanted to; only gay marriage and a federal hate crime law preventing Christians from mentioning Christian doctrine on the issue remain. They're only 1%-2% of the population...when you go fishing for an advisor from such a small group, it's not because he's the best in the business, it's because you're trying to make a point.
Furthermore what is wrong if one during their life time has shown maturity and grown both spiritually and intellectually (as it may appear F. Thompson has done on the issue of abortion). That, you're right about. Let's see what else comes out about this matter given time.

In a perfect world Duncan would be leading in the polls and cruse to a 49 state sweep of the electoral college in 2008. However there are 300,000,000 people here and half of them are running around with 2 digit and single digit IQâs. Your boy Duncan has chosen to hide himself in the house of reps for the last 25 years and his inactions gave him next to ZERO name recognition. He has never had a whiff of national publicity for anything while a congressman. That is not the way to become the president. On the other hand, everyone with a boob tube knows who Fred is. He has made a name for himself in the footsteps of the TV personality Ronald Regan who was head and shoulders the best president in the last 50 years. Even among republicans, Duncan for prez is a nonstarter; because he failed to distinguish himself in any way on the national scene. His candidacy is merely a vanity candidacy, like when B-1 Bob Dornan ran for prez. Get behind Fred, unless you want a rat infested WH again.

You’re dedicated to Hunter. You’re grasping at some pretty straw-like material.

It is amazing to me how you know Fred’s motives for selecting someone as an advisor. Are you a part of his decision-making team?
