I have a hard time believing this study is accurate. If it is one should be able to show a statistically significant correlation between increased cancer rates and the introduction of the nutrasweet. As far as I know that has never been discovered. My biggest doubt concerning the idea that somehow aspartame is causing cancer is that the two major components of aspartame are commonly found in many foods naturally.

The whole hoopla it’s about the breakdown of the aspartame upon ingestion and specifically so into phenylalanine, formaldehyde and methanol. Common sense should tell anyone (without the need of research) that knowingly exposing your body to them it’s reckless. Unless you are diabetic, lay off artificial sweetener, forget about soda (diet or regular) and drink water. What happened to the times when a Coke was just a treat? I am always stunned when I see parents buying juice drinks or sweetened, artificially colored water masquerading as juice and thinking they are doing the kids good. And we wonder why we lead the world in obesity... Oh, the false sense of security by ordering an extra large Diet Coke at McDonalds along with a tub of French fries. Why bother?

Yep, aspartane is an extremely dangerous drug. I've known this for yrs. Everyone I love I've tried to get off this god awful sweetner. Causes brain tumors...causes people to actually gain weight from it...the list is endless...My Mom drank it one time and one time only it immediately caused her throat to close up...
This once again proves the FDA is actually not looking out for the public...it's there to protect the profits of companies.

According to the article there is no statistically significant correlation between aspartame unless the child is averaging over 5 cans/day everyday or an adult male is taking over 20 cans/day every day. If you took that many cans of regular soda you’d get diabetes, or that much water and you’d disturb your electrolyte balance enough to pass out!

I remember the banning of Cyclamate sweetner back in the 70’s. Found you’d have died from drowning first — you needed to take the equivalent of four thousand cans of soft drinks to get the levels they were talking about.
To say nothing about fried bacon.
Runny eggs.
Salt.
Sugar.
ad nauseum!

My aunt has always said that about aspartame for years. Personally, I’ve read that it is can cause bad stomach aches and headaches. I usually stick with the regular sugar. I’ll have something with aspartame on occasion if that is all that is available. I don’t the taste of diet coke compared with regular coke.
