And by the way, we have a ways to go before we surpass the time spent fighting in Vietnam.
Plus our own war of independance.

You have a lot more faith in unseen results than I do. You are very optimistic and I hope you’re right, but I don’t think you are. We will know what the end game is within a few months. Let’s pray for our troops.

Well, remember, there are competency tests for employment in almost all occupations. But not for politicians. Thus we get truly bad politicians. Our govt would probably be improved if we did away with elections and chose all elected positions via lottery ala jury duty selection.

Chosen? Do one term at whatever and that is it.

You said the war could be won in six weeks but then you gave absolutely no specifics. I would like you to grace us with your wisdom on the subject by explaining how you end a counterinsurgency in six weeks. That seems only fair given the boldness of your contention.

We were facing perhaps 400,000 troops in Vietnam, about the same number in Korea and millions of Axis troops were against us in WWII. The number of combatants against us in Iraq is estimated at around 20,000. The Iraq war is very costly considering the force we are up against
Considering we are fighting a foe that chooses to fight as guerrillas, with nothing to identify them, and using women and children as shields, I think we’re doing good. Ask the troops, not the media.

Good morning.
“The longest war in American history, at this point, isn’t it?”

You are forgetting that little Southeast Asian dust up last century, aren’t you? And since American soldiers were still dying in Korea until recently, I would say that that one didn’t really end in 1953.

Doolittle is irreparably damaged. Can Assembyman (IIRC) Guy Houston get a campaign ready in time for the primary?

Why would an East Bay Assemblyman stand any chance in a foothills congressional district 100 miles away from his home base?

We, the Republicans, the country, lost Iraq, the WOT November 2006 when people like phoney_one_cent voted for the likes of Senator Webb.

Just two days ago, Al Qaeda begged for more Jihadists to fight the Americans in Iraq and A-stan. You don’t like the war, freedomdefender? Tough! Al Qaeda declared war on the US in 1996. You don’t get a vote. Al Qaeda demands war and war is what they will get. It is just a matter of degree and where. Under the Republicans the Front is in Iraq, A-stan, Somalia, the Horn of Africa. Under the Democrats, the Front is NYC and DC.

Yes, we the country will most likely vote Democrat come 2008, but like I said earlier, idiot voters gave the Senate and House to Dems without a second thought as they pulled the lever for their beloved Webb, Murtha..... So, what the heck is the big deal if the Dems win the WH? People gave them the legislative branch and are proud of it.

If you want to read a damn fine post here is one worth your time.
It explains why we the people are so down the WOT. Gunner03, sideoutfred and SoCalPol, you will love it. Promise. You can trust me! ;)

I meant to get back to you yesterday on the traditional protocol of pinging anybody your commenting on, like I'm doing now.

I think this whole thread is coming from the irrational exeuberance of the Ron Paul crowd! They, along with Doolittle think the war is lost because the President jumped off the cliff on immigration.

There is no doubt the President hurt his own credibility with that, but the transferrence to the war issue is not one we conservatives should "knee-jerk" toward in wildly lurching lunges of fickle fanaticism!!!

If we screw this up by cutting and running, you better get ready for extreme economic damage that our grand and great grand parents experience in the great depression. I already see some careless comments that the economic risks are supposedly not important and that is false on it's face!!!

I believe Doolittle is pist because of the President not calling off his "dogs" in the Justice Dept!!! In a way, I can kind of understand his bitterness. I was disgusted with Doolittle once upon a time because he didn't do near enough to help my re-election bid... Nor did his prodigy Rico Oller who got beat by Dubious Dan Lundgren now in CONgress!!!

You said the war could be won in six weeks but then you gave absolutely no specifics.

Do you know how to read? Here is what I posted:

"If we gave the order to our military to destroy the enemy in 6 weeks, they would do it."

Are you saying that our military would not be able to do this? I guess I have more faith in the superior firepower and capabilities of our troops than you have.

BTW, quit taking things out of context. I never said this is what our leaders should, at this time, order our military to do. Post 55 clearly lays out what I think we should plan on doing after the "surge".

Your repeated misquoting,"baiting" posts are becoming tiresome.

I think we’re doing good. Ask the troops, not the media.

The troops are doing a magnificent job, they are doing what they are ordered to do. They, however, are soldiers and do not have the capability to make barbarians, who have been killing each other for centuries, somehow become peaceful global citizens. As soldiers, there is no doubt there are none better.

BTW, I have had the opportunity to speak with some very high ranking officers in the past few months and, make no mistake about it, they are very concerned with the situation in Iraq.

You are so very right. Thank you for your post. This is what we and the Iraqis are facing. These are the “Injuns” our politicians and some on FR want to retreat from.

“Speaking through an American interpreter, Lieutenant David Wallach who is a native Arabic speaker, the Iraqi official related how al Qaeda united these gangs who then became absorbed into “al Qaeda.” They recruited boys born during the years 1991, 92 and 93 who were each given weapons, including pistols, a bicycle and a phone (with phone cards paid) and a salary of $100 per month, all courtesy of al Qaeda. These boys were used for kidnapping, torturing and murdering people.

At first, he said, they would only target Shia, but over time the new al Qaeda directed attacks against Sunni, and then anyone who thought differently. The official reported that on a couple of occasions in Baqubah, al Qaeda invited to lunch families they wanted to convert to their way of thinking. In each instance, the family had a boy, he said, who was about 11 years old. As LT David Wallach interpreted the man’s words, I saw Wallach go blank and silent. He stopped interpreting for a moment. I asked Wallach, “What did he say?” Wallach said that at these luncheons, the families were sat down to eat. And then their boy was brought in with his mouth stuffed. The boy had been baked. Al Qaeda served the boy to his family.”

"It should be pointed out that the American people now have the resolve to fight through a grand total of about 2 weeks of World War II before waving the White Flag and surrendering"

The war would have been over years ago if there was a united front at home. It's only because the democrats are such POS's that the jihadists keep getting their hopes up.

What you are saying is true, but we will never win with the left. If we are killing massive numbers of the enemy the press reports it as “massive slaughter of ‘innocent Iraqis’”.
