IS THOMPSON THE ONE?
Evans-Novak Political Report for 7/5 | 7/5/07 | Robert Novak

Posted on 07/05/2007 10:52:26 AM PDT by rodomila

"Far more troubling are the fears among Republicans that there is less to Thompson than meets the eye. He could still seize the nomination and prove a disappointing candidate in the general election. In appearances across the country, from New Hampshire to South Carolina, his speeches have ranged from "pretty decent" to "quite underwhelming." He has not yet had the knock-out performance he will need in order to prove that he is worthy of frontrunner status." Robert Novak

Well said and a 100% spot on analysis. It amazes me that some just can’t see whole picture.

Until he gets in the race and really starts campaigning, I have no way to ascertain how he will be as a candidate. I do have my fears, and the reports of his performance so far have been less than overwhelming.

Fred will dump the mop bucket water that is Hillary after he knocks her the hell off the broom she flew in on.

There, fixed it.

I’d rather lose with Fred than win with Rudy Rodham Giuliani.

Billary’s co-presidency legacy will beat Billary.

Thompson’s the one, until Newt Gingrich enters the race in September....

I have nothing against Fred mainly, because I know very little about him. He needs to get in the race and publically express his views. Just being an ex-pol and a TV personality is not going to sell me.

For Now......Go D. Hunter!

Hillary will beat herself.
She is an EXTREMELY mean-spirited, unlikable person and will NEVER be able to conceal that reality from the American public over the course of an entire Presidential campaign.

IF she gets the Democrat nomination and wins the presidency, it may be a huge blessing to America because of that extreme mean-spiritedness. She would QUICKLY become the most loathed U.S. president in history, and her association with the Democrat party and Liberalism would mortally wound both -- the damage Nixon did to the Republican party after Watergate would pale in comparison.

I didn't believe I'd ever be thinking this way, but now I can think of a lot worse things to befall America than a Hillary presidency. A pro-government liberal like Giuliani or Romney, doing Liberal dirty work under the false title of "Republican" or "Conservative," would be MUCH MORE DAMAGING to all.

Gingrich has fallen for the Man-Caused Global Warming swindle. He thinks it's legit.

Newt's OUT.

Fred will be the next president. It’s way early and the “it’s getting late in the game” frenzy will die out as the rest of the posers on both sides pick each other off and cull the herd. The frenzy is created by the MSM and unfortunately there are a lot of unthinking individuals in this country who are sucked right into the delusion as it swirls it’s way to the drain.

Hillary might unite the GOP, but she could do a lot of damage before we could impeach her.

Rudy would destroy what is left of the Republican Party.

Some choice : )

Sadly, it is so. I had a hard time believing it until somebody pointed me to the live thread of Gingrich’s debate with (I think it was) John Kerry. Instead of arguing the truth with Kerry, which is that the man-caused global warming agenda is akin to saying man affects the tides or cause eclipses of the moon, he just wanted to “save the planet” by different means. It was horrible.

Hillary would do more than unite the GOP -- she would FRACTURE the Dems and Liberalism for a long, long time. I think it would more than offest the damage she could do during her short stay in power, and impeachment or not, she'd be the equivalent of a lame duck for much of it.

Agreed about Rudy. I think Romney would be just as bad if not a little worse because (unlike Rudy) he visually conveys the illusion of a level-headed, free-market conservative fellow. As for McCain ... he's almost as crazy as Al Gore, and THAT guy is "nuttier than a squirrel turd," as one eloquent FReeper put it.

Considering that Fred hasn’t even announced yet, it’s a little too soon to say he’s going to be a lousy candidate. Why not just give him a little time, after he’s announced?

From none other than that staunch "conservative" Robert Novak. Talk about an "underwehlming" person!

Think I will rely upon my own research concerning Mr. Thompson and continue to support him in every way possible.

But of course, as an ex-Republican, my only concern is for the Republic not the Republicans.

I posted the opinions of Novak. I have not heard Thompson enough to judge the quality of his speech making. I have a strong gut feeling that the country will not elect another Republican with a drawl at the top of the ticket. I also believe that the Thompson boomlet is a result of dissatisfaction with the current field rather than anything he has actually accomplished. The only thing I can remember about his senate term is the botched Chinese fundraising investigation and his fervent support of McCain-Feingold.

I personally believe that Romney is our best option paired with Thompson, Demint or Mark Sanford as VP. He has run large organizations in both the public and private sectors, he is pro-life (recent or not), he is smart as hell, good looking, fast on his feet in debate and media settings, and since he is still relatively unknown, his upside is uncharted territory. His personal life and history are beyond reproach. He is the only major GOP contender who hasn’t been divorced. Regardless of any quibbling about his more liberal positions in the past, HE IS RUNNING ON A CONSERVATIVE PLATFORM. I personally believe that this who he has been all along, but he had to make some adjustments in his presentation to survive in the bluest state. If anyone can point to any major accomplishment of Fred Thompson’s or to any organization he has ever run that prepares him to be POTUS, I’m all ears. The Reagan comparisons are patently absurd. He had run a state with the worlds fifth largest economy for eight years before taking the top job.

My worry is that the Democrats come to their senses and don’t nominate the hildebeast.

But Fred vs. Hillary? No reason to worry there.

If Thompson is the candidate, I am not sure he can take NY.

if we are pinned by taking New York state in the general then we will never be able to nominate anyone even remotely conservative
