How to guarantee that nobody watches the Winter Olympics: put it in a city nobody has ever heard of or cares about, and in a time zone far, far, away from the U.S.

Right up near to IslamoNazi hotbeds. The Russkies need to seriously prepare for terrorist disruptions, in my opinion. Solchi is too convenient and too tempting a target for the Islamists to pass up.

I'm totally happy that Russia is getting the winter games.
This should keep Putin Inc. quiet till 2014 while they busy themselves building ski runs rather than baiting the U.S.
It's a good idea to let the the commie powerhouses like Russia and China throw a party once in a while to which the whole world is invited. It actually gives the free world a little stick (like boycotts) to keep the hosts somewhat on the straight and narrow for a while while we attend to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and other troublesome areas.

I dunno. I believe the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway was one of the most successful of all time.

I've heard of Sochi, though I can't say I care about it. And there are Olympic followers across the pond in Europe too, and Russia isn't in a time zone too far away from them.

You must have been rooting for one of these two thriving metropolis Salzburg, Austria or Pyeongchong, South Korea.
I don’t think that they are on CDT either.

Like Pyeongchong, South Korea ever had a chance. LOL
But was Lillehammer in Norway ever a household name? They put on a pretty good show as I recall.
Besides, people who really care about the Giant Slalom and the Luge wont care much about silly things like time zones dude.
And after her Gold metal win in Womens Figure skating at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olypimpics, Maryland, USAs own Kimmie Meissner will be poised to win her second Gold at Sochi in 2014! That should bring in some viewers.
