US Navy invades Sydney as Kitty Hawk sails in

By Justin Vallejo

July 05, 2007 01:00am Article from: The Daily Telegraph

* 7000 US sailors to arrive in Sydney from today * USS Kitty Hawk in harbour between 10.30am and midday * Son in deep shock, mother in induced coma

SYDNEY is gearing up for a US invasion with the arrival of the USS Kitty Hawk today.

Another three US ships will follow - bringing 7000 cashed-up sailors.

Thousands of Sydneysiders are expected to flock to Sydney Harbour to catch a glimpse of the massive aircraft carrier, which is expected to arrive between 10.30am and midday.

It is likely to be the final visit of the Kitty Hawk, which last came to Sydney in 2005.

While the public will not be allowed on board, Mrs Macquarie's Chair and The Domain will provide the best vantage points for one last look at the ship before it returns to the US to be decommissioned next year.

In an embarrassing bungle by the State Government, the Daily Telegraph can reveal the security of the four visiting US warships was potentially compromised after a NSW Government agency posted sensitive details on the Internet.

The arrival date, times and berthing details of the USS Kitty Hawk, USS Cowpens, USS Juneau and USS Tortuga were published by the Sydney Ports Corporation despite requests from the US to keep the information secret.

Liberty in Australia on the Fourth of July. (Sigh!) I don’t think it gets any better than that on this planet.

Wine (or whiskey), Women (some males probably) and Song (or a good fight) are what these 7,000 sailors will want.

Judging by this thread, one can only hope the sailors are a little more conscious of the threat than the beer.

Yes...Hopefully they have all been briefed on the potential threat in Australia...

Australia may not be a wise place for the muzzies to mess with Americans...No doubt our fine Australian allies would take serious offense to such a threat...

I see the carrier deck is labeled “FR” I know that Free Republic is big, but I didn’t know we had an aircraft carrier namesake.
