US Steps Up Security Following Attack in Britain

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made appearances on several television talk shows.

He told ABC's This Week program there is no indication of a linkage between the events in Britain and any specific attacks on the United States. "We do not have, at this point, specific, credible intelligence that there is an attack, a particular attack, focused on this country," he said.

But at the same time, speaking on CNN's Late Edition program, Chertoff said U.S. authorities are concerned about the threat of terrorism, especially in the coming months. "We have had a number of al-Qaida leaders quite publicly talking about how they want to carry out their threats against the West. So, given that and given the history that we have had over past summers, with attacks in Britain, I think we were clearly focused on this as a possibility," he said. Full story...

Authorities seize homemade submarine from Colombian drug gangs

Bogota - Colombian authorities seized a homemade submarine allegedly used by drug traffickers for smuggling in Pacific waters in the north-western Choco province on the Panamanian border.

‘This type of boat had a capacity to transport approximately four tonnes of cocaine hydrochloride in its interior,’ the Colombian Navy said in a statement Wednesday.

The vessel is the third submarine seized by Colombian authorities on the Pacific coast.

The Navy noted that four people were arrested, and the authorities also seized a radio, a portable energy generator and other elements.

According to the official source, drug gangs have used this and other methods to transport illegal substances to destinations in Central and North America.

“UK to get ‘unified’ border force”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Britain is to get a “unified border force” to boost the fight against terrorism, the prime minister has said.

A “highly visible” uniformed force would bring together immigration and Customs officers, Gordon Brown said.

He also announced a review of allowing intercept evidence in court, and plans to double from 28 days the time police can hold suspects without charge.

But the Tories and Lib Dems said any border force should include police officers, new resources and new powers.

Officers from the Border and Immigration Agency, Revenue and Customs and UKVisas will be brought together to create a “single primary checkpoint” for passport control and customs.

Outlining his counter-terrorism strategy to MPs, he said the cabinet secretary had been asked to report back by October on how to implement the proposal “very soon”.”

“Al Qaeda seen in search of nukes”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper, the undersecretary of defense for intelligence, told a joint House committee hearing that al Qaeda has conducted terrorist attacks against more than two dozen nations since September 11.

“Al Qaeda has and will continue to attempt visually dramatic mass-casualty attacks here at home, and they will continue to attempt to acquire chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials,” Gen. Clapper said in discussing the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on threats to the United States. “And if they’re so successful in obtaining these materials, we believe they would use them.”

He spoke before a joint hearing of the House Armed Services Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.”

China’s growth, which has been fueled by booming domestic building and commercial development, as well as soaring exports, has accelerated even as U.S. growth dropped to 0.7 percent in the first quarter under the weight of a profound housing recession. China is expected to drive a hearty 5.2 percent expansion of the global economy this year, the IMF said.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “He is suspected of being in contact with Said Bahaji, who had close ties to the three Sept. 11 hijackers who lived and studied in Hamburg - Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah - but fled before the attacks and is believed to be in Pakistan. Scheuten said, however, that there is not evidence of direct contact between Redouane E. H. and the hijackers, or their plot.

“The accused had numerous contacts with the international network of violent jihadis, among other places in Syria, Algeria and Iraq,” Scheuten said.

“At the end of November 2005, he completed explosives training at a camp operated by a terrorist network in Algeria. He is seriously suspected of supporting the al-Qaida foreign terrorist network through recruiting fighters for suicide attacks in Iraq and through financial payments.””

10 made ill by unknown chemical in Ann Arbor library, store

ASSOCIATED PRESS

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Ten people at a public library and an adjacent grocery store were sickened by some type of chemical, police say. Five were sent to an area hospital.

Ann Arbor police Sgt. Matt Lige said Thursday that the “unidentified chemical agent was dispersed” in a restroom at the library and somewhere in the Kroger store.

“There is no indication this is terrorist-related,” Lige said.

Ten people complained about respiratory irritation shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Five were treated and released from the University of Michigan Hospital. The others refused medical attention.

Ann Arbor police and fire officials planned to review surveillance photos and videotapes, Lige said.

Hi cindy. me too. in no way do i want anybody to give info on how something may be done.

what strikes me is the amount of times zawahri has said ‘the ground will shake under your feet’. to me that means a quake, but i’m wondering how the hell someone can plant a bomb that deep and htat powerful. we have sattelites combing every piece of land for suspicious activity, i don’t doubt homeland security they are doing their best but on the other hand i have a feeling also the enemy is crafty.

has anybody thought about all of the missing uniforms? and ambulance drivers, maybe cops coming and causing more havoc?
its frightening when i think about it! the first thing we should have done is closed the damn borders to ALL, and go basically house to house looking for anything suspicious.

im just a computer nerd, their mindframe is beyond me. but if it’s true that they started this covert sh&t way before 9/11 we are talking many possibilities. i dont want to know. i have immediate family right beside washington and every single goddamn day i wonder how i can write to them saying ‘maybe take a vacation’ yet i would have done the same a year ago when i felt danger in the air, then they wouldhave come back and said ‘you fool!’. do you know what i mean? i’m not making washington out to be a target but they have and even though everyone thinks they are all talk, i take them seriously. i dont like their silence!

but in general, the masses because of our vivid stream of selective entertainment has brought everyone back into 9/10. really. the ones here haven’t forgotten about the threat, but most ppl are busy downloading new mods for their iphone. no idea that they are determined to strike again!

its like i’m living ina fantasy land yet, i’m right! surely they are happier and thats a good thing i don’t want to be a buzz killer, trust me if you are a single guy never bring this topic up with a girl....lol....!!:(

but for the ones that are aware, this is some serious shhht.

all i know is that theres a god, i don’t care who your god is, budda, an indian lady with 8 arms, jesus, mohammed, (they are prophets actually) but just believing in something better than this is the key and it’s all one common demonanation. i don’t mean to be preachy at all here but a higher power is a higher power. if you do good to people which outweighs the bad you’ve done you have a place reserved upstairs.

im ranting and am sorry. but honestly right now is not the time i would like to bring a child into the world. i’d love to, they’d be cool like a monkey that can talk but now is not the right time. the worlds temperature is high and well not yet till the dust is settled if i survive.

if i seem pessimistic, sorry. but i really feel war in the ground, Aq are gearing up for something and all i am is helpless.

everyone have a good day just grab the ones around you make sure you tell them you love them, make their day better, give them a compliment (youd be surprised how far a compliment goes even if you are lying about a girls hair) it just spreads.

i really wish i could be reincarnated into a pioneer in the 1800’s. build my own house out of wood, chill at the fireplace with my wife while roasting a deer. those were the times! not this crap, today is like watching a chess game everyone is making small moves and any outcome is bad, anybody hurt is bad!!!

another dry run?

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A suspicious piece of luggage prompted the evacuation of a Long Beach Airport terminal Thursday, authorities said.

The luggage was discovered by federal Transportation Security Administration workers at about 9:30 a.m., city police spokeswoman Kathy Parsons said. She had no further information.

Several hundred people were ordered to evacuate, and firefighters, police and a bomb squad were called to the airport, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
