Everything worked out for the best. Our President, who's been stellar when it comes to the global campaign against Islamofascists, can turn his attention back to it, and away from this amnesty nonsense.
Democrats ended up with egg on their faces. They badly wanted to pass the Comprehensive Invasion Reform and Amnesty Act of 2007 during THIS SESSION in order to sneak amnesty through to 20 million illegal aliens during Bush's presidency in the foolish hopes they could weather the voter backlash by pointing to GOP White House support as cover. The Democrats wanted to take this issue off the table before the '08 elections. With the collapse of amnesty, racist groups like La Raza don't get what they wanted -- amnesty for 20 million invaders -- even as Democrats are shown to have been outmaneuvered.
God bless Sen. Jeff Sessions, Sen. Jon Cornyn and all the other senators who worked tirelessly to drive the final stake into this monster. And, most of all, thank the VOTERS!

America sent the right message. Cheaters should never be given the opportunity to jump the queue just because they cheat en-masse.

Now is not the time to let up. We need to pressure our politicians to enforce the existing immigration laws including deporting illegal aliens, building the fence and prosecuting businesses who do business with illegal aliens. The link below is a ping list to pay attention for other questionable legislation being considered in Congress.

Democrats HAVE been outmaneuvered, and if W is smart, he will take away a very important lesson from this debacle: he can push his numbers up by returning to conservative ideas. He hasn't gone so far that rational conservatives will write him off IF he sees that the people simply are not with the Democrats. "Change" was voted in in November, but look at Congress' numbers--people don't like this particular change.
So Bush is in the perfect position to MAKE change--a change toward a conservative governing philosophy.
The Democrats have stirred up a hornet's nest but they weren't able to gain anything from that, and in fact may hurt themselves next year IF the people remember who was FOR this particular piece of legislation. Bush won't be on the ballot, but those who are on it who supported it can't just ignore the La Raza types who will be howling to be heard in November 08.

Bush should have learned from Harriet Miers.
This was a screw up of gigantic proportions.
The only thing conservatives got out of this is that voter anger will go toward the DemoRats as well, and Fred Thompson/Duncan Hunter come out as the only viable Pubbie candidates.
Hopefully Bush will become invisible during the campaign, and Fred will pull it off.

I’m in on this post a little late, and I’m sure this has already been said a dozen times, but this is something over which we STILL must not relax. We must continue to be vigilent and inform the American people of the sightest move to revive the amnesty ideas in any form by any degree — not only this year, but next year . . . and the next . . . and the next.

At election time, all we seem to hear is the influence of big money and the large corporations! I recogonize that campaign money buys a lot of television time because the political campaigns know how superficial most of the voters are.
HOWEVER CORPORATIONS DON'T VOTE, only individuals do!
In this amnesty issue, the people clearly demonstrated the power of the people and the spinelessness of the Congressional leadership. Now if all those who dilligently called, wrote letters, FAXed, to pressure the Senate, would work as hard in the election, then we will start to take back our country from the pimps of the election industry!
That is, the politicians, the campaign consultants, the MSM, the former politicians and their staffs who turned into TV announcers for their party propaganda!

Barring a cataclysmic even (like a major war with Iran), President Bush will never again receive support from the majority of conservatives.
Many Republicans are finished with him.
The political ledge dive by the GW Bush is almost to immense to describe. I don't know if there is anything in US history to compare it to, except perhaps Johnson's loss of the Democratic base during 1968. But even that was different, in that radicals finally took control the entire Democracrat party after years of posturing for it.
President Bush's next 17 months are going to be very lonely for him indeed. I feel sorry for him, but he did this to himself.

Your president and his minions in the Senate are not going to give up on this. It’s the main purpose of his presidency.
Everything else was done just to keep you all on the plantation.

The people killed comprehensive amnesty and it was a great victory. Now it’s time to make sure they don’t get non-comprehensive amnesty piece by piece, things like the DREAM bill. And it’s time for the the border wall, enforcement and deportation of illegals. It’s time to make the representatives of the people jump to the people’s tune.

Don’t know that outmaneuvered is the term to use. I believe it was outright rebellion by the American people. They are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it any longer. The public opinion of congress is in the toilet. The senatorial azzhats gave shown themselves for what they are. The American people have found their voice and the arrogant soms bitches in Capitol Hill should be very afraid.

To paraphrase that great political scientist, Machiavelli, you INCREASE your political power by USING your political power. Controlling the borders has just become the number one issue for the 2008 primaries and elections. Conservatives NEED such an issue to get them to the polls.

Anyone know what Ted Kennedy’s approval numbers are?

Thank you for mentioning the GOOD that W has done. I still do not understand why he wuld support this bill. He has always wanted some kind of immigration reform, but why this? Even Rush wondered what was behind it.
