The people killed amnesty (Comprehensive Invasion Reform and Amnesty Act of 2007 -- DEAD, FINALLY!)
Washington Times ^ | 5/30/07 | House Editorial

Posted on 06/30/2007 12:23:55 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

The justifiably furious reaction of the American public, which deluged senators with telephone calls, e-mails and faxes, forced the Senate to reverse itself yesterday and send the amnesty bill crashing to defeat — a potentially fatal blow. It was a devastating setback for the Bush administration and its Democratic Party allies, in particular Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Ted Kennedy.

In addition to being an extraordinary substantive triumph for the American people, it was a huge victory for the conservative movement. Talkers such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and many others played an indispensable role in making available the research by the Heritage Foundation and NumbersUSA and analysis from editorial pages such as this one to tens of millions of Americans in a very short period of time. But ironically, by demonstrating in a powerful way its ability to reach and educate the public about the specific problems with the bill, talk radio has also made liberal politicians like Sen. Dianne Feinstein even more determined to revive the so-called Fairness Doctrine (the equal-time policy enforced by the Federal Communications Commission until it was eliminated in 1987 at the urging of President Reagan) in an effort to take away the one part of the mass media that conservatives dominate. On the final vote, virtually the entire conservative movement lined up against the bill. On the losing side were the leading Democratic presidential contenders — Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — and the Bush administration, vividly demonstrating the political gap between the president and the conservative movement.

That’s why Trent Lot and others who are FOR AMNESTY now want the “Fair Doctrine” resurrected to keep people confused and dumbed down.

against the bill and right on immigration are not the same thing

last month Fred said more or less:

“we’re concerned about our border security and most folks are not as much worried about this 12 million but what about the next 12 million or the next 12 million after that”

that bothered me....we are very worried about this 12 million which is why we are against amnesty or z-visas and whatnot

which is why even though I tentatively support Fred I would like to see him firm up this position and really talk about amnesty and anchor babies and kinfolk visas and whatnot....I have not heard him say yet that the illegals need to go home whether through deportations or de-incentifying or both

that is what the debate has been all about on this bill

can they stay and bring families...even extended ones or not?

if they stay, we become a nation with a majority Hispanic founded by mostly illegal Mexicans mostly voting Democrat in a generation

we will have completely altered the ethnic demographies here in less than 30 years....remarkable, a feat usually only accomplished after conquest and subjugation

that is what is at stake...and I think Fred is going to have to address that specifically

i live about 45 minutes south of the capitol & am a "policy wonk" for one of "the solidly right-wing" (private) foundations.

do NOT believe that "THE BEAST" of amnesty is dead.

there are already at least 20 senators & a "whole flock" of DIMocRATS, who plan to attach "amnesty amendments" to SEVERAL sorts of UNrelated bills, which are the sort that are DIFFICULT to veto.

i heard yesterday afternoon (from a "staffer" that i TRUST)that the "leader of the pack" pushing that idea of "piece-mealing amendments to everything" is none other than "smuckie schumer".

BEWARE!

I disagree, Bush has encouraged illegal immigration. What has he done to help those border patrol agents that are imprisoned? Bush has grandiose plans to be the “Father of the North American Union”. The only country that loses is America. Bush is an ass.

actually, the REAL reason is that ALL the senators (with perhaps one or two exceptions) BELIEVE that they KNOW (better than WE "regular folks" who voted them in!) what is "best for everyone".

it's called THE ARROGANCE OF POWER!

time for a house (& SENATE) cleaning!!!

my recommendation is to take back our LIBERTY by amending the Constitution to:

1. allow senators ONE (6-year)term,

2. allow congressmen/women THREE (2-year) terms

3. cut the size of the "congressional staff" by not less than 50% & FREEZE the number permanently,

4. allow the VOTERS of each state/district to set congressional salaries, for their OWN representatives,

5. forbid "corporate", "NGO", foundation or "union" $$$$$ from ALL federal races (making ACCEPTANCE of or OFFERING such UNlawful donations to ANY federal candidate a felony),

6. allow ONLY individuals to make contributions to ANY candidate from the citizens of his/her district (HoR) or state (senate)

AND

7. ELECT the justices to ALL of the federal courts to ONE six-year term.

this "humble recommendation" may NOT be THE answer, but it's at least a PORTION of THE answer!

If 10-30 MILLION american citizens decided not to pay their income tax, would W and the dims say that it was impossible to deal with that many?

No, those taxes would be collected at gunpoint and if anyone resisted further they would be burned alive, just like at Waco.

There is no excuse for not deporting illegals.

“it’s called THE ARROGANCE OF POWER!”

Yes, however I disagree with term limits.

If someone “gets it” I don’t want them limited in how long they serve. This is where the sheeple fail us in electing these arrogant sob’s in time after time. It’s LACK of knowledge by the sheeple that allows these arrogant people to stay in office. The bigger problem is getting folks INVOLVED and SEEING WHO is NOT representing them on a DAILY basis - not just the more controversial issues.

my reason for wanting STRICT term limitations is that ALL of the "public servants" get ARROGANT after they've been in office & expect to stay FOREVER. in general they only "serve" themselves.

i desire a "citizen's congress", that will ACTUALLY serve the citizenry, rather than PREY on it.

IF the congress-critters HAD to leave office & live under the laws that they pass, they wouldn't be so quick to pass the laws.

furthermore, NOBODY is "irreplaceable". even my little district wouldn't run out of people, who are CAPABLE of serving 2- 6 years!

fwiw, IF my amendment passed, my home district would doubtless send a farmer or a small business owner to congress, as that is the kind of district that i hail from. (btw, if we could set the salary of the congressman/woman, we wouldn't let them starve BUT they wouldn't make 3-10 times what their "home folks" make.)

I still don’t agree.

It doesn’t matter if you ONLY allow them in for 6 years. Arrogance and diresepectingt eh will of the people is will still occur if the candidate is ARROGANT. It’s silly to believe otherwise.

It’s really up to the people to vote OUT the arrogant, power abusers no matter how long they are in office. It’s NOT about time in office. It’s ALL about WHO is representing you and ARE THEY REPREEETING YOU. I don’t automatically assume the length of time will kill arrogance - that’s silly.

Let them serve the people for as long as they are REPRESENTING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE! If they aren’t - VOTE EM OUT! That is the only sensible solution.

The fault really lies with the SHEEPLE for constantly voting in idiots. Six years of an idiot - the person is still an idiot and that MUST be determined by knowledgeable voters. So the argument of limiting their term is ridiculous!

I don't care if a person spends their LIFE as a representative as long as they respect the will of the people and DO what the PEOPLE want.
