The justifiably furious reaction of the American public, which deluged senators with telephone calls, e-mails and faxes, forced the Senate to reverse itself yesterday and send the amnesty bill crashing to defeat a potentially fatal blow. It was a devastating setback for the Bush administration and its Democratic Party allies, in particular Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Ted Kennedy.
In addition to being an extraordinary substantive triumph for the American people, it was a huge victory for the conservative movement. Talkers such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and many others played an indispensable role in making available the research by the Heritage Foundation and NumbersUSA and analysis from editorial pages such as this one to tens of millions of Americans in a very short period of time. But ironically, by demonstrating in a powerful way its ability to reach and educate the public about the specific problems with the bill, talk radio has also made liberal politicians like Sen. Dianne Feinstein even more determined to revive the so-called Fairness Doctrine (the equal-time policy enforced by the Federal Communications Commission until it was eliminated in 1987 at the urging of President Reagan) in an effort to take away the one part of the mass media that conservatives dominate. On the final vote, virtually the entire conservative movement lined up against the bill. On the losing side were the leading Democratic presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and the Bush administration, vividly demonstrating the political gap between the president and the conservative movement.

But only after he (and others) stuck their collective fingers in the prevailing wind and saw which way it was blowing. Now he can go on the campaign trail and say, "I voted AGAINST the amnesty bill so VOTE FOR ME"
I'll also remember the hypocrite!
Wonderful! That’s what its going to take.
I am happy this bill was defeated, but I think the Repubs took a hit here. President Bush spent what little political capital he had on this nonsense.
Nice of you to "conveniently" leave Mitt off the list.
Unfortunately, Congress, who are accountable to no one will wait until the dust settles and then introduce another bill even worse.
I say they are accountable to no one because once in office its very difficult to root them out.
TERM LIMITS ANYONE?
Cheers!
They know radio helped us knock out the immigration bill and they are going to go after radio and do their best to stop them.
We need all of them to help in our fight to keep this country strong . The MSM has their way and continue to do their best to stuff their slanted views down our throats
They are now licking their wounds, regrouping, and stragetiging[sp?] on :[a] How to punish the peasants for rebelling and going against the wishes of their masters and [b] How to sneak this bill in under the radar so that the peasants will not be aware of it until it is signed into law.
We must be ever vigilant and alert 24/7.
I just love happy endings.
I am not a fanatic about one world government but I believe it is in the background dictating a lot of what we see going on that we don't have an answer for.
Why won't they address the issue of closed borders, anyone have an answer?
Obviously they believe nothing is going to change to get these people to speak the language of their STOLEN country so they are joining in on forgiving them for their illegal status and are catering to them.
I live a long way from any border so there is not a flood of them on my streets, they are here but not as plentiful as in a lot of areas.
Too much celebrating. Conservatives didn’t “win” anything; we simply didn’t “lose.” Need to continue on the offensive and insist on border security NOW! That would be a “win.”
Thanks for the ping!
Voila: millions of new voters, as soon as they get their legal driver's licenses.
>>Its the main purpose of his presidency.
Everything else was done just to keep you all on the plantation.<<
You got that right.
You’re right.
