The people killed amnesty (Comprehensive Invasion Reform and Amnesty Act of 2007 -- DEAD, FINALLY!)
Washington Times ^ | 5/30/07 | House Editorial

Posted on 06/30/2007 12:23:55 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

The justifiably furious reaction of the American public, which deluged senators with telephone calls, e-mails and faxes, forced the Senate to reverse itself yesterday and send the amnesty bill crashing to defeat — a potentially fatal blow. It was a devastating setback for the Bush administration and its Democratic Party allies, in particular Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Ted Kennedy.

In addition to being an extraordinary substantive triumph for the American people, it was a huge victory for the conservative movement. Talkers such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and many others played an indispensable role in making available the research by the Heritage Foundation and NumbersUSA and analysis from editorial pages such as this one to tens of millions of Americans in a very short period of time. But ironically, by demonstrating in a powerful way its ability to reach and educate the public about the specific problems with the bill, talk radio has also made liberal politicians like Sen. Dianne Feinstein even more determined to revive the so-called Fairness Doctrine (the equal-time policy enforced by the Federal Communications Commission until it was eliminated in 1987 at the urging of President Reagan) in an effort to take away the one part of the mass media that conservatives dominate. On the final vote, virtually the entire conservative movement lined up against the bill. On the losing side were the leading Democratic presidential contenders — Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — and the Bush administration, vividly demonstrating the political gap between the president and the conservative movement.

Sam Brownback changed his vote........interesting......I’ll take note of that.....

So far, all the replies to your post have mentioned that Brownback changed his vote after seeing its impending failure. What these other replies don't specifically say is that during the vote, Brownback was one of the first to say yes. It wasn't until later as the voting session was nearing its end, with failure being the obvious outcome, Brownback immediately pulled his Yes vote and replaced it with a No vote.

just out of idle curiousity, WHERE are you going to find "knowledgeable voters"???

when 28% of the people think one of the "top ten issues of importance in America" is whether TWO (2)TROLLOPS (paris hilton & britney spears) do/do NOT wear underpants, it is an "identifer" that the "public" is STUPID!

(btw, if we could set the salary of the congressman/woman, we wouldn't let them starve BUT they wouldn't make 3-10 times what their "home folks" make.)

Hey, we agree on something!

We need some earnest amateurs in Congress with common sense and who listen to the people they represent. Enough of the professional politicians finally got the word on the amnesty farce to stop it, but it was a shame that it got as close to passing as it did.

John Cornyn is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a pal of George Soros. he’s behind the North American Investment Fund, an essential element of the NAU process, which will build infrastructure in Mexico with our tax dollars. He almost slipped it through a while back but pulled it when people made a stink.

He’s the enemy and will slip that monstrosity through again when the sheeple drift off to sleep.

“Comprehensive Invasion Reform and Amnesty Act of 2007 — DEAD, FINALLY!)

Everything worked out for the best. Our President, who’s been stellar when it comes to the global campaign against Islamofascists, can turn his attention back to it, and away from this amnesty nonsense.”

Not Dead. Wounded maybe.

This ‘amnesty nonsense’ was intentionally pushed by President Bush, in a critical election year. In his single minded determination to move forward the globalist, Bipartisan OBL/CFR’s agenda for a North American Union, he risked and lost both the Senate and the House. Which, in turn, without majority, affects his ability to move forward effectively in fighting the WOT. And I would disagree that he’s been ‘stellar’ thus far, considering 6 years post 9/11, our borders are INTENTIONALLY yet to be secured. I think it very much a mistake to believe this issue dead. Far too much has been invested by the OBL/CFR, Bush, and this Administration in moving their agenda forward. It would seem they do so at all costs and must be stopped.

NO MORE CFR CANDIDATES FOR ME.

I am writing this after the Glasgow attempted bombings... I wonder if you have a different opinion? It has been six years since 9-11...President Bush has willfully refused to defend our borders. People want to kill us...President Bush has been derelist in his duty.

Unfortunately, it is NOT dead. Various part of it will return, as individual bills, for example the DREAM Act.

Funny thing is, NONE of the enforcement items in the bill will return this way...

I couldn’t agree more.

I’m not even sure that he would secure the borders in any permanent way even if there were another attack. Bush has said he is doing everything in his power to protect this country...I’ve said right along to the defenders of Bush and his open borders policy that we stand to lose the WOT right in our own backyards.

This thing in UK has shown us the dangers in low skilled immigration and H1 visas. No one is talking about this, but all those techies and doctors (skilled workers) who might come to this country under this cheap labor Repub block could be sleeper terrorists. There might be no possible way to tell the good guys from the bad guys. We are at war; we should not be letting anyone in the country right now.
