A Pyrrhic Victory (Sour Grapes from Linda Chavez)
Townhall ^ | June 29, 2007 | Linda Chavez

Posted on 06/29/2007 8:46:21 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

Immigration reform is dead. But before conservatives who killed this bill start popping champagne corks, they ought to consider the following.

Our borders will be less secure, not more. Employers who want to do the right thing and only hire legal workers won't have the tools to do so. The 12 million illegal aliens who are here now will continue to live in the shadows, making them less likely to cooperate with law enforcement to report crimes and less likely to pay their full share of taxes. In other words, the mess we created by an outdated and ill-conceived immigration policy 20 years ago will just get worse.

But you won't hear this if you tune in to talk radio over the next few days or read conservative blogs. There will be lots of gloating over having killed "amnesty." There will be claims that senators finally "listened to the people." And, no doubt, some conservatives will be emboldened to consider the next step in their war against illegal immigration, namely to deport those now here illegally.

--snip--

But none of this matters to the radio talk show hosts who encouraged their millions of listeners to shut down the congressional phone system with calls protesting "amnesty." Nor does it matter to the myriad direct mail outfits opposing immigration, which will reap tens of millions of dollars in donations to fatten their coffers as a result of this "victory."

Linda should learn not to tango with Heather MacDonald. She does the research.

Note to Ms. Chavez,

The bill would have passed if it did the following:

1. Build the fence.
2. Punish employers with jail time and fines if they employ illegals.
3. Establish a database for everyone in this country who can legally hold a job. The employer would just have to check the database to see if a potential employee can work for him.

That would end the problem of illegals. It does not take an idiotic amnesty bill to set things right.

Linda has been like this since she got spanked down for having an illegal working for her. She lost out a cabinet spot and since then been a full blown amnesty supporter.

It's just a personal thing. Yuck. Now I hate her even more.

She writes that as if there's something wrong with the idea!

THE SPIN: "We can't just deport 12 million people!"

MY ETERNAL REPLY: "Why not?!? Have we even tried??? Let's give it a try before admitting defeat! Six million, four million, even one million successfully deported is still a victory!!!"

Unfortunatly the article has a bit of truth to it.

This will cause the illegals to stay in the shadows. They will not help the police. They will not pay taxes.

Is this person really this stupid or were they dropped on their head as an infant. The results would have been the same if the bill passed but they would be here legally. They would still stay in the shadows because they would not pay the fines nor return home and reapply.

I do agree that we need to update the immigration process to make it quicker. I have no problem with immigrants as long as they go through the legal process.

However anyone that has broken our laws should never be allowed to become citizens.

We need to put the National Guard on the whole border, give them arrest and pursuit rights, give them self protection rights and this would stop the immigration problems.

We then need to finger print. photograph, and take DNA samples from all illegals caught, create a national database that ALL law enforcement depts can access, & send the ones we catch back across the border.

The National guard would stop them coming back and if they are caught a 2nd time 10 yrs in prison would be just about right. Then for every illegal we catch the government should bill their home countries government $10,000.00.

May I add to “If your bill was so important” Why the failure to do any legitimate cost/benefit analysis in this major bill...negotiated it in smoky back rooms where La Raza was well represented but the American middle class was not.

Insisted that the starting point was that we accept 12 or 15 or 20 or 30 million or more illegal aliens without regard to their suitability for contributing to— or at least not damaging— this country. IOW, the same test we have for legal immigrants.

Voted down a mild-mannered amendment from Sen. Coryn of Texas to exclude gang banger, felons and those with terrorist ties from Z-Visa eligibility.

Given illegal aliens priority over aspiring legal immigrants (some of whom have been waiting for years!) to get visas, citizenship, jobs and collect social security.

Offered more empty promises in return for amnesty now, promises which still haven’t been kept from the 1986 amnesty bill.

Isn't Chavez the one whose appointment to a Federal post was derailed over her hiring of an illegal immigrant nanny?

How precious.

And as a reminder, Chavez is the one who lost her chance at a white house appointment because it was discovered she was giving money to an illegal alien LIVING IN HER HOME!!!

Actually she was nominated to be the Sec. of Labor, but got caught in a silly nanniegate web.

It is true that no good deed goes unpunished, the Peruvian lady Ms. Chavez gave a job, had the highest praise for her.

But before conservatives who killed this bill start popping champagne corks,...

Too late, Linda baby. We popped the champagne corks at my house for lunch yesterday to celebrate the survival of the Republic.

We are relieved and grateful to the few American heroes in the Senate who led this fight, grateful to the millions of Americans who called to support the heroes so that we could defeat this nation-destroying monstrosity on the phone instead of in the streets.

WE ARE HAPPY AND WE ARE HAPPY TO CELEBRATE!!!

Immigration reform is dead. But before conservatives who killed this bill start popping champagne corks, they ought to consider the following, blah blah blah.

Ummm, dear Ms. LaRaza Chavez, thanks for the credit, but I'm afraid that we conservatives alone in America don't have this kind of power. I wish that we did, but we don't. We're simply not big enough to force a Democrat-controlled Senate to fail to get even a simple majority for a bill, with even quite a few Democrats voting "Nay" in what was truly a nonpartisan vote.

And oh yeah, one more thing: suck on it, bitch.

"Ever overstay your visa in other countries Linda? ~Not to mention entering illegally..."

My mother overstayed her visa in Saudi back in the early 80's. My dad was working for an oil company at the time and my mother was there for a 3-month stay. Some mess up with her visa resulted in her being there a couple days beyond what she should have been. Bottom line was..."somebody" had to pay for this mess-up...so they put my Dad in a Saudi jail for 48 hours. This is no joke. This really happened.
