So now Sen. John Kerry wants the Fairness Doctrine reinstated for broadcasters because the media have been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views.
I agree, Liveshot. Its just terrible the way some pompous, blue-blooded PC politicians are able to get an absolute free ride in the press from their fellow pompous blue-blood media barons for 30-plus years.
As a matter of fact, Sen. Kerry, if I were drafting an indictment of the unfairness of political coverage in the media, youd be Count One.
Remember 2004? Talk about lack of fairness - that phony Dan Rather 60 Minutes story about George Bush in the Texas Air National Guard.
Utterly false, debunked within hours, but because it was supposed to help Kerry, it was picked up and splashed across the front page for days by The New York Times [NYT] and the Boston Globe. In fact, days after this latest Jayson Blair-like outburst was debunked as total falsity, the Globe still ran a headline on the front page screaming that it was true, even though the copy below the headline admitted that it was nothing more than another dirty trick from the mainstream media.
How about when Kerry was between heiresses, practically living in his car, and his lame-o media buddies described his travails as the wandering years.
A more accurate description: the Kevin Federline years. Theres nothing sadder than a gigolo who has yet to track down his next aged ex-golddigger.
These are the people, Kerry said of the talk-show hosts, that wiped out one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media.
He neglects to mention that his team had a network, too, Air America, which failed because nobody wanted to listen to it.
But Air Americas crash-and-burn was understandable, because liberals already had their own radio network. Its called NPR.
Heres how it works. If you dont like talk radio, you dont have to listen, and you dont have to pay for it. If you dont like NPR, you dont have to listen, but you do have to pay for it. Hows that for fairness, Sen. Kerry?
How come no one outside Massachusetts ever heard about the 16-point buck he claimed to have had between the crosshairs on the Cape? How about how he claimed to have run the Boston Marathon but couldnt recall the year?
What about the condo flipping? What about the Bob Brest Buick? Or the fact that George Bush actually got higher grades at Yale than Kerry? What about all his free rides on the Florida S&L bandidos private jet back in the early 90s., pre-Mama T? How come most voters still dont know any of these stories?
Wheres the Fairness Doctrine when you really need it?
Yeah, we need the Fairness Doctrine all right. The liberals are so outgunned, after all. The conservatives have Fox, and the liberals only recourse is on CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, AP, NPR, PBS and Reuters.
Fairness? The Senate grandees shut down their phone system on Capitol Hill yesterday so they wouldnt have to endure the pleas of the plebeians not to let 30 or 40 million more illegals swarm across the border. So much for those conflicting views of public importance that Kerry claims to care so much about. No, Kerry et al. only care about radio. In a way, it would be great if they succeeded - at least if you own stock in one of the satellite-radio companies. The return of the Fairness Doctrine could save both XM and Sirius. And then theres Internet radio. Did you know that Wi-Fi is now available in some rental cars?
Itll be tough extending the Fairness Doctrine to the Internet, Sen. Kerry. Because the talk-radio yahoos are going to demand the same freedom of speech as, say, pornographers.
A caller late in Rush's show yesterday posed an interesting question. Isn't the talk show host already offering equal time by playing whatever sound bite the other side said in set up for the commentary that follows by the host?
Excellent point and one that is lost on about 50% of Americans (i.e., the left).....
bump
It’s not fair and it’s not a doctrine. It is government control of thought and speech.
So very very true.
and don't forget 'fistgate' ...happened under Kerry's watch.
strange how a dem can run for president and not have even the most heinous issues under their 'leadership' investigated...meanwhile, the MSM is off making up stories about the GOP candidates.
This is just hillary's camp trying to do anything they can to minimize opposition talk as 'her heinous' makes her bid.
"The 1st amendment - only for the left" /s
[[But Air Americas crash-and-burn was understandable, because liberals already had their own radio network. Its called NPR]]
Air America failed because people to not want to hear how terrible their country is. Hate does not sell here in the land of the greatest and most successful social experiment (US Constitutional Republic) in the history of mankind. Contrary to the popular belief of most liberals and radical leftists, America still is the greatest country on earth.
That is exactly what the liberals hate the most. Somebody with intelligence taking apart their ridiculous statements.
Kerry is just a panty-waiste elitist desperately trying to hang on to relevancy after being “outed” (in more ways than one) in the ‘04 election. Move over, Jimmy Carter.
He has never been photographed participating in the Boston Marathon.
But your logic is sound.
He’s just a liar.
Funny thing is — I don’t think he knows he’s lying when he’s lying. I believe he believes his own bullsh!t.
Will the Fairness Doctrine also apply to public colleges and Universities? How about public schools forcing their students to watch alwhores movie?
They also bashed American businesses and were shocked when they couldn't get paying sponsors.

With their supporting Communist North Vietnam’s push to take over a then Free South Vietnam during the Vietnam War...
...JOHN KERRY and his partner Senator TED KENNEDY succeeded in killing Freedom of Speech for the South Vietnamese People.

>>Ill agree to support the Fairness Doctrine so long as it is expanded to include each and every movie, television show, newspaper, book, etc.
Wouldn’t it be fair for schools that show “Fahrenheit 911”
and “An Inconvenient Truth” in class to also have similar films
rebutting those views? Naw, those other films (”FahrenHYPE
9/11” and “Celsius 41.11”, for example) are just right-
wing propaganda, eh?
Fairness!
That’s what I’ve said before...they bash Wal-Mart, etc.,
and then cut to a...public service announcement...No ads
bought.
Oh, but they did make a big deal about a supposed list of
companies that were told to NOT advertise on Air America
because of the political views. Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
strikes again!
>>Swift Boated
Oh boy. I get on radio messageboards and that term comes up
and the meaning is “liars who made up stuff about Sen.
Kerry and tricked the American people into voting against
him”. (”more Swift Boating by right wing wackos, here”).
Then I point out that Kerry did nothing to fight back against them, especially during the campaign when it may have done
some good (got proof they’re wrong, John? Get that info
out there!)...no, instead John announces that the truth
about his Vietnam years will come out—some TWO YEARS
after the election. (And I still don’t think he’s
given justification for disputing the charges. Any
lawsuits against O’Neill and Corsi pending, John?
Are you going to give us the REAL story, John?)
from Jon Keller’s blog (WBZ-TV):
Where to begin?
First, Kerrys statement is patently false. If he or you have hard evidence of opposing views (opposing to what?) being squeezed out, send them along and Ill print them. I wont hold my breath, because you cant honestly find any. In todays media environment print, broadcast TV, cable TV, HDTV, radio, internet, etc. I challenge you to find an opinion anywhere, no matter how far out on the fringe, that doesnt have a ready outlet of some kind. Kerry isnt mad about opinion being squeezed, hes upset about opinion (often, admittedly, masquerading as fact, as in some of the more vulgar smears against his war record) he doesnt like. A wild guess George W. Bush heard and saw plenty of media coverage in the 2004 campaign he didnt like either. An odd symmetry there, dont you think?
Second, Kerry is a bit hypocritical here. The old fairness doctrine called for all legally-qualified candidates to be given equal time and included in debates. If Kerry protested Ralph Naders exclusion from the 2004 debates, I must have missed it.
Third, Kerry and his fellow whiners are completely missing the point about the new media landscape. A million flowers are blooming there. Some give off offensive odors. Some can poison you. News consumers have to be careful about which ones they swallow. But protecting the audience from nonsense overdose can not intelligently be argued to be the job of the federal government. Just because the marketplace wouldnt support Air America doesnt mean that a vast right-wing conspiracy has hijacked the airwaves, is suppressing liberal thought, and needs to be reined in by federal cops. Air America did a poor job of programming and promotion. Some of its hosts were too shrill others were too dull.
Last time I checked, it was a fifty-fifty country when it comes to presidential politics, a fact that suggests theres a huge audience available to left-leaning talk radio above and beyond NPR. Is trusting the voters and the marketplace to reward competent liberal broadcasters with ratings and clout too much to ask of Kerry and company? Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh and company are thankful for the huge boost in public standing theyre receiving from this ill-advised crusade against them.
LOL! Always a mistake to try to ferret out actual meaning in any of Kerry's bloviations! He's got the classy accent (acquired somewhere since his younger days), but his content is 99 44/100 pure -- air!
