‘Fairness’ for Kerry: A liberal lock on the airwaves
Boston Herald ^ | 6/29/07 | Howie Carr

Posted on 06/29/2007 1:17:28 AM PDT by raccoonradio

So now Sen. John Kerry wants the Fairness Doctrine reinstated for broadcasters because the media “have been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views.”

I agree, Liveshot. It’s just terrible the way some pompous, blue-blooded PC politicians are able to get an absolute free ride in the press from their fellow pompous blue-blood media barons for 30-plus years.

As a matter of fact, Sen. Kerry, if I were drafting an indictment of the unfairness of political coverage in the media, you’d be Count One.

Remember 2004? Talk about lack of fairness - that phony Dan Rather “60 Minutes” story about George Bush in the Texas Air National Guard.

Utterly false, debunked within hours, but because it was supposed to help Kerry, it was picked up and splashed across the front page for days by The New York Times [NYT] and the Boston Globe. In fact, days after this latest Jayson Blair-like outburst was debunked as total falsity, the Globe still ran a headline on the front page screaming that it was true, even though the copy below the headline admitted that it was nothing more than another dirty trick from the mainstream media.

How about when Kerry was between heiresses, practically living in his car, and his lame-o media buddies described his travails as “the wandering years.”

A more accurate description: the Kevin Federline years. There’s nothing sadder than a gigolo who has yet to track down his next aged ex-golddigger.

“These are the people,” Kerry said of the talk-show hosts, “that wiped out one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media.”

He neglects to mention that his team had a network, too, Air America, which failed because nobody wanted to listen to it.

But Air America’s crash-and-burn was understandable, because liberals already had their own radio network. It’s called NPR.

Here’s how it works. If you don’t like “talk radio,” you don’t have to listen, and you don’t have to pay for it. If you don’t like NPR, you don’t have to listen, but you do have to pay for it. How’s that for fairness, Sen. Kerry?

How come no one outside Massachusetts ever heard about the “16-point buck” he claimed to have had between the crosshairs on the Cape? How about how he claimed to have run the Boston Marathon but couldn’t recall the year?

What about the condo flipping? What about the Bob Brest Buick? Or the fact that George Bush actually got higher grades at Yale than Kerry? What about all his free rides on the Florida S&L bandido’s private jet back in the early ’90s., pre-Mama T? How come most voters still don’t know any of these stories?

Where’s the Fairness Doctrine when you really need it?

Yeah, we need the Fairness Doctrine all right. The liberals are so outgunned, after all. The conservatives have Fox, and the liberals’ only recourse is on CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, AP, NPR, PBS and Reuters.

Fairness? The Senate grandees shut down their phone system on Capitol Hill yesterday so they wouldn’t have to endure the pleas of the plebeians not to let 30 or 40 million more illegals swarm across the border. So much for those “conflicting views of public importance” that Kerry claims to care so much about. No, Kerry et al. only care about radio. In a way, it would be great if they succeeded - at least if you own stock in one of the satellite-radio companies. The return of the Fairness Doctrine could save both XM and Sirius. And then there’s Internet radio. Did you know that Wi-Fi is now available in some rental cars?

It’ll be tough extending the Fairness Doctrine to the Internet, Sen. Kerry. Because the talk-radio yahoos are going to demand the same freedom of speech as, say, pornographers.

“House Votes To Block Reinstatement Of Fairness Doctrine
The House of Representatives on Thursday (June 28) voted overwhelmingly, 309-115, for an amendment sponsored by Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) that bars the FCC from using government money to restore the Fairness Doctrine, which required broadcasters to provide contrasting viewpoints on controversial issues.”

Conservative media blogger Brian Maloney: “While today’s vote prevents using taxpayer dollars to fund any reimplementation of the agency’s past policy, the real test will come after the 2008 presidential election. That’s when an elected Democrat president would have the opportunity to stack the FCC with the party’s own directors, which would mean an almost certain reimposition of free speech- stifling regulations. If Congress remains in Democrat hands, this scenario would be even more likely.”

"I think the fairness doctrine ought to be there, and I also think equal time doctrine ought to come back," he said on the Brian Lehrer show on WNYC.

So what did the conservative, who was afforded equal time to balance out Kerry's viewpoint, have to say about this?

How about how he claimed to have run the Boston Marathon but couldn’t recall the year?

I contacted Frank Porter, Vice President of the Board of Governors of the Boston Marathon and asked him about Kerry's claim to have competed in the Boston Marathon. I didn't care if he finished or not -- my question was, was he entered?

Porter refused to comment.

Fairness Doctrine is just like the hate speech rule... That is, "We the liberal Democrats, gays, etc. can say anything we want to but the rest of you folks cannot talk back to us."

Rubbish...!!!

Is it Talk Radio's fault that American citizens are sick to death of the liberal bloviating on the air waves and in the newspapers they control? Is it Talk Radio's fault that the liberals are so stupid that they don't know that Americans don't want the opinion of the anchor reporting the news? Americans just want the "Who! What! Where! Why! How! We don't need Brian Williams', Katie Couric's, or Charlie Gibson's opinion on the story. We are quite capable of deciding for ourselves the merit of the story. Liberals need to get a clue. Americans know that liberals are liars. And, the folks are sick of these very boring people.

Long live Talk Radio... it's a town meeting where except for expletives, a person can voice his/her opinion whatever that opinion may be... bravo!!!

I’ll agree to support the Fairness Doctrine so long as it is expanded to include each and every movie, television show, newspaper, book, etc.

That means I expect Ann Coulter to receive equal time on Comedy Central with Jon Stewart for starters.

The liberal media failed to get the French Poseur elected President on a lie. Since then he's been angry, not at their deception on his behalf but at right wing bloggers for questioning his patriotism. Guess who he wants to shut up.

Our country wasn’t founded on fairness. It was founded on allowing each person to have the freedom to seek his own goals to the best of his ability without interference by a government. The fact that some people are better at it than others is just the way it is. Anything less is a loss of freedom.

“These are the people,” Kerry said of the talk-show hosts, “that wiped out one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media.”

What the heck does this mean? If he said “wiped out the balance of power” or called talk radio a “profound change” it would make his ramblings more clear. But, if you take him at his word - always a risky gamble - there was a “profound change in the balance of media” (lib domination) and talk radio “wiped it out”. Obviously, “Fairness” must be restored.

Good thing Howie excluded the print media from this list, else his column would be about 50 pages long.

I love Howie. Not just for columns like this (a corker), but also because he worked his tail off for weeks, urging listeners to hound the senate and defeat the amnesty bill.

The Fairness Doctrine upsets a lot of liberals and Far Left-types, too. But when haven’t the Dems jumped at a chance to shoot themselves in the foot?

I didn’t care if he finished or not — my question was, was he entered? <<

Having looked into his phony military career and his elitist attitude, my guess would be..... Was he entered?....NO!...(elitist don't have to!) Did he run in it?........Yes,... He probably waited behind a car, 1/4 mile from the finish, doused himself with French spring water to represent sweat, and was filmed crossing the finish line....

This fairness doctrine annoys me. We need to get on the offensive instead of just whining.

1. We need to force the government to define what is political comment. This would allow us to attack liberal voices as they plan to attack conservatives. Right now anything liberal like NPR is given a pass under the name of community information.
2 We need this to apply to TV also. What is the difference between TV and Radio waves. Easy...Radio is controlled by Conservative voices.
3. We need to let the government know we will defend the conservative right to speak and shut this down like we did the Immigration vote.
