We have redundant lock mechanisms for all our doors and for the sliders as well. Bolts top and below for the sliders aside from the locks. Bolts for the doors. Security all over cameras that caught neighborhood kids two doors down the road shooting out my next door neighbor's car window (they tried to deny it when we found them and the incident on the tape) and guns in quick access(handprint lock mechanism) safes.

Still not enough, IMHO.

Thanks! Good post.

Of course, someone has posted a full instructional as to how it works and which shows you what needs to be done to a key to make it work...

How it works

First five or six that want to try that trick on my house won't have to guess how much time they have left to live.

Milliseconds.

A good locksmith can rekey a mid-grade (e.g. basic Schlage) lock to make it very bump resistant for probably $20-30. Has to do with the pin lengths in different locations.

I’m looking for a multi-user biometric pistol box.
Is there an “ebay equivalent” for the gun crowd?

And suggestions for this product... I’m not wanting to spend in the 300 range, but have concerns about the $150 box that I online.

Sure, there are a couple of them, I’d start with GunBroker.com, try a search for more or the different forum out there like ar15.com, blackrifle sumpin’ or other, locks and safes may be peripheral to the main purpose of such sites but there often fora where you can ask questions. Good luck.

A hammer banging on a filed/blank key will open a lock.
A hammer banging on a window will also gain entry.
What’s the big scare?

A glass cutter can silently cut a circle out of any window and a suction cup prevents it from crashing to the ground. Then the thief merely opens the window lock and gets in. A knife can cut a screen, etc.

The only safe way is to have an alarm.

My friend had thieves break into his home and rob him while he and his family slept upstairs. These thieves were only interested in property, so stole computers, cellphones, car keys and took off with the car. Nobody heard a thing.

We sleep upstairs in my home and have the alarm on in the basement, garage and entire first floor. We also have nearly ‘bullet-proof’ glass in all of our windows. A glass cutter will not work on them, and even a sledgehammer will not get someone in.

I’m sure that you have replaced all your windows with steel plates, right?

I put those windows in my house because I live on the gulf coast (wind and impact resistant up to 150 mph). They are hurricane proof, but would be very difficult to break out in the event of a fire. I have since gone back to the standard windows in my children’s rooms.

Even alarms can be bypassed (my neighbors house was broken into after the phone line was cut that dials into the security company). Best defense is a gun and a good dog.

Impact resistant safety glass. Had them done last year. : )

Aluminum hurricane panels thrown into the deal because the price difference was minimal. Some people would say that's redundant but I don't think so. The glass won't shatter but you still have to replace it if it breaks. So panels work out nicely. Would have liked to have gotten the roll down variety but we shelled out $60K in repairs and renovated the area that needed it while things were torn apart.

Locks are for honest people.

As a firefighter, trained in forcible entry, I can very quickly breech just about any "locked" door or window (with the proper tools).

Best advice is to keep your valuables in a (fire-resistant) safe. Have max insurance on everything else (your stuff).

Have ready access to a firearm to protect the truly valuable things. (the lives of your family)
