Boeing Awards China Firms $500 Mln Supply Contracts
Reuters ^ | June 29, 2007

Boeing Co. said on Friday it had awarded commercial airplane parts and components supply contracts worth $500 million to Chinese firms, including Hafei Aviation Industry Co. Supply contracts, including for parts for the jumbo 747-8 aircraft, were also agreed with subsidiaries of state-owned Chinese aircraft makers AVIC I and AVIC II.

Both Boeing and its European rival, Airbus, have awarded sizeable parts contracts to Chinese manufacturers while also seeking to secure aircraft orders in the nation's fast-growing aviation sector.

Airbus has agreed to set up an aircraft assembly facility with three Chinese partners in the northern port city of Tianjin, with production scheduled to start in 2009.

Great. Just great. They've poisoned pet food, put lead into kiddy toys, added toxins into tooth paste, ruined fish imports, and now they plan to build take out airplanes! Somebody wake me when it's over.

the success of the 787 doesn’t come from nothing. It’s an american concept - but a world product - same with the JSF.

Aside from dealing with Communist rat bastards, I don’t have a problem with a US based company manufacturing goods in another country for the host country’s consumption. It’s when they sell it back here at a dollar cheaper...

I said $1 cheaper, but in many cases US firms can not compete. I was thinking (Asian made) Nike athletic shoes for some reason...

That too will come to pass. Not to mention yet more technology going to China to use against us at a future date. If this were a factory in Spain or even Brazil I would not be near as concerned. But China?

Right now our best foreign trade relations comes from Japan. They do make much of what they sell here in the US. What next though Northrop Grunham factories in China to build them or us fighters and ships? It's gone far beyond low tech items and both parties don't care. China despite all the assurances from our elected is not our friend.

I hate to read stories like this.

I believe it is a mistake to send out these contracts overseas.

We need to keep hard manufacturing jobs within our borders.

Just my opinion.

If we want to do something about it, we have to ignore our intuitive emotions to some extent and get informed.

Fred Thompson:

* Voted YES on permanent normal trade relations with China. (Sep 2000) [under "Free Trade"]

Duncan Hunter:

* Voted NO on Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China. (May 2000) [under "Foreign Policy]

Far scarier is the products they produce are so horribly inferior. This is one area that I’d like the parts made from the highest bidder not the lowest.

Great. Just great.

Rut-roh. Extraordinarily poor timing on Boeing's part.

May have to change that slogan that's used on the Airbust threads a bit:

"If it's Boeing, I ain't going.....

An old Army helecopter pilot friend of mine once replied the following when asked what he liked best about flying military helecopters:

"It's a collection of 500,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. What's not to like?"

If we want to sell planes to China, and apparently we do, then we have to give them a piece of the pie.

Keep that thought in mind next time you're at cruising altitude. Yet another reason NOT to fly. Blackbird.

Every plane will come with a supply of a nicely laminated 8X10 inch cards for each seatback pocket containing the following wording:

"DO NOT BE ALARMED!"

The components falling from this aircraft while in flight are of the finest Chinese manufacture."
