Voinovich self-destructs on Hannity
WorldNetDaily ^ | June 27, 2007

WASHINGTON – Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, misunderstood the results of a vote on an amendment to the "comprehensive immigration reform" bill being debated in the upper house today.

He also is apparently unfamiliar with efforts to re-impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters operating on the public airwaves.

But it was nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Sean Hannity's persistent grilling about the senator's intentions on key cloture votes leading to a showdown on what is characterized as an "amnesty" bill that caused Voinovich to melt down before millions of listeners today.

The normally low-profile Republican hung up on the No. 2 talk host in the country.

The key sticking point in the conversation was Hannity's question as to whether the senator had done a cost analysis on the bill. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank, estimates the bill would cost the American taxpayers $2.5 trillion.

Voinovich said he didn't believe the cost would be that high because a third of those eligible for a path to citizenship would never take it.

"How do you know that?" Hannity asked. "Where does that figure come from?"

Voinovich did not provide any supporting evidence for his contention and admitted he had read neither the bill itself or the Heritage Foundation analysis.

The senator complained that some of his constituents have attempted to "intimidate" him by saying they would oppose his re-election if he voted for the bill.

"You do not intimidate George Voinovich," he said. "During my 40 years in this business, I have always looked at the pros and cons of each piece of legislation and made a determination. If people don't like my decision, they can express their will during the next election."

Now theres a great idea! Action instead of just complaints. I live in Tennessee and both my senators have been good on conservative issues. I thank God for them. How does a person go about recalling a senator? I know they did it in California to the gov and there was talk of recalling McCain in Arizona but it might be helpful if there was a clearcut plan of action.

Take the names of any RINOs that vote for cloture tomorrow. They are candidates for forced retirement. We don’t call it “intimidation.” We call it “accountability.”

I will be calling my Senator....Tom Coburn.

He ran and won a congressional seat...on a self "term limited" platform.

He then ran for Senator....and I believe...if my memory serves me...he's vowed to only serve a couple terms. Knowing his past....I'd bet he's not BS'ing....He's a good man.

I will get back to you....

I wonder if this is why Voinovich chose to denounce the war. Having pissed off conservatives for years, and now proven himself an idiot, he needed liberal support.

I typically cringe when Hannity is on, because I think he’s a moron who can’t do anything but read the daily RNC fax. But boy, he sure made Voinovich sound like a retard today.

The citizens of Ohio must be very proud. By his own admission, he hasn’t read the bill, he has no clue what the financial impact may be and he doesn’t even understand the votes already taken. If he had any pride at all, he would vacate his office immediately. 40 years. What a horrendous commentary on the state of our government.

The normally low-profile Republican hung up

When Bush starts getting impeached and asks for help, he will be surprised by how many people he finds have hung up on him

Knock off the trash talk!

Voinovich ably represents that 50% of American voters with sub-100 IQs.

You can’t just concede half the electorate to the Democrats!

My question to Freepers, can a United States senator be recalled by the voters of his state somewhat like the recall of the former governor of California Gray Davis or California Supreme Court Justice Rose Byrd?

Can a sitting United States Senator be recalled?

A mass defection from the GOP party?

Perhaps mass defecation on the party would get their attention. If not, at least they'll know our feelings.

Nope....that's wrong-headed Becky....

Our countries founders never intended to have "career" politicians...it was supposed to be a sacrifice to go to Washington and continue what those original patriots did.

There are plenty of GOOD MEN AND WOMEN that could surely do the job for 6 years or 8 that these BOVINE SCATOLOGISTS are doing....And many would do it for way less than we are paying currently....
