Citing environmental concerns, Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order prohibiting city departments from buying bottled water. In a decision announced Thursday, Newsom said the ban will go into effect July 1 and extend to all city and county water coolers by December 1. Tony Winnicker, spokesman for the San Francisco public utilities commission, said Newsom's decision will save tax payer money and combat global warming.

Typical grandstanding political move of insignificance.

If there's any truth to this, it just proves what a nut case Gavin Newsome really is.

It also goes to show how little radical Liberals actually cherish personal freedom. ...It also makes me glad I don't live within a stone's throw of San Francisco, either.

Now that they solved all of those other minor problems like crime, they can move on to the important stuff.

Like dissing America’s soldiers, banning pastic bags and banning bottled water. Truly, SF is another country.

Bizarre is a complement for them. I have visited there a few times, but I ALWAYS like leaving. Such a shame too...the region is very nice. Since San Fran is already it’s own county, I wish they would just make it its’ own state.

No kidding! They can also annex Santa Barbara and Hollywood, too. The rest of California is relatively normal.

Those smug San Francisco greenies get their pristine tap water from Hetchy Hetchy Reservoir, which was developed by damming up a another Yosemite valley in Yosemite National Park.

San Francisco Lefty-Greeny politicians love their snowmelt tap water, and oppose the movement to Restore Hetchy Hetchy.

They are all in favor of the environment, don't you see, but not if it affects their non-bottled tap water.

Why were city departments allowed to buy bottled water in the first place?
