We Need 7-10 More Votes to NO on Cloture Next Week (Shamnesty)

Take a look at this list -- figure out what you should do with Senators from your state or neighbor

DEAR FRIENDS,

We need 41 Senators to vote NO on cloture next Tuesday or to not show up for the vote.

Sen. Johnson (D-S.D.) is still seriously ill and expected to be a no-show.

We believe we have solid commitments from 32 other Senators that they will vote NO on cloture that would allow the Kennedy/Bush amnesty (S. 1639) to come to the Senate floor for debate.

That would give us 33 of the 41 we need.

Congratulations to all of you who have elected Senators solidly in our camp or who have persuaded Senators to move to the anti-amnesty side -- those Senators in this list:

32 DEFINITE 'NO' ON AMNESTY CLOTURE
Many of you will find ways to express tremendous appreciation and to help solidify them so that no offer from the White House or party leadership can turn them at the last moment.

Alexander (R-Tenn.)
Allard (R-Colo.)
Baucus (D-Mont.)

Byrd (D-W.Va.)
Bunning (R-Ky.)
Chambliss (R-Ga.)

Coburn (R-Okla.)
Corker (R-Tenn.)
Cornyn (R-Texas)

Crapo (R-Idaho)
DeMint (R-S.C.)
Dole (R-N.C.)

Dorgan (D-N.D.)
Enzi (R-Wyo.)
Grassley (R-Iowa)

Hutchison (R-Texas)
Inhofe (R-Okla.)
Isakson (R-Ga.)

Landrieu (D-La.)
McCaskill (D-Mo.)
Pryor (D-Ark.)

Roberts (R-Kan.)
Rockefeller (D-W.Va.)
Sanders (I-Vt.)

Sessions (R-Ala.)
Shelby (R-Ala.)
Smith (R-Ore.)

Stabenow (D-Mich.)
Sununu (R-N.H.)
Tester (D-Mont.)

Thune (R-S.D.)
Vitter (R-La.)

12 SENATORS LEANING NO ON FINAL PASSAGE BUT PROBABLY LEANING YES ON CLOTURE (when it counts)
Please do everything you can to get to these Senators and help them understand what is at stake and where the citizens of your state stand.

Bond (R-Mo.)
Bingaman (D-N.M.)
Burr (R-N.C.)

Boxer (D-Calif.)
Cochran (R-Miss.)
Conrad (D-N.D.)

Ensign (R-Nev.)
Levin (D-Mich.)
Gregg (R-N.H.)

Nelson (D-Neb.)
Hatch (R-Utah)
Webb (D-Va.)

ALL OTHER SENATORS APPEAR TO BE PLANNING TO VOTE TO HELP PASS A BILL THAT WOULD BE:

  • largest amnesty for illegal aliens in history
  • largest increase in foreign labor in history
  • largest expansion of social welfare programs in history (to handle the 35-40 million -- mostly low-educated, low-skilled -- foreigners who would get Green Cards over the next 20 years alone

All those Senators need your constant phoning, as well. A few could still be brought to the side of American workers, students and communities and vote NO on the amnesty. And the rest need to be shown full wrath to help the others decide to stay on the side of the voters.

If you have any information that indicates otherwise, let us know by sending us a message from our Help Desk page.

ACTION 1: Most of you can still make phone calls to local Senators' offices for another hour or so.

    Get all phone numbers at:
    http://www.numbersusa.com/congressinfo/

ACTION 2: Connect up with at least one or two other citizens in your area and visit one of the local Senate offices on Monday (if your Senator is not on the list of sure NO votes).

You can be in e-mail contact with others in your are who also want to connect by clicking on MEMBER CONNECTION at the top of your Action Buffet corkboard.

    ACTION 3: Know your subject.

You have plenty of talking points on your Action Buffet corkboard and on your Vote Day page.

Its hard to believe Lugar is going to vote no on cloture could it be a trick? He is an f student on amnesties and he voted for cloture two weeks ago...next thing you know Voinovich will get on board....I’m skeptical

That’s what I’d like to know, he’s almost fanatical about passing his little scam onto us isn’t he? Maybe he wants to be remembered for something, like being a traitor and sellout.

I’ve also been reading on other blogs that the staff at Voinovich’s office say he could be persuaded. These are sounding like bad times for the open borders crowd if even those two won’t vote their way. :)

“Mothers Against Illegal Aliens”....Got to love it! Thanks for the link. I would love it if we got enough ground roots support to recall some of these senators and boot their butts out of office!

I thought from what I heard today, Corker and Lamar were voting no. They both sent out press releases.

Why are you still doubting it?

The one I don’t understand at this point is Hatch. What is that guy thinking?

Something tells me you don’t want to get the Mothers Against Illegal Aliens mad, they’re on a tear against Kyl and McCain.

>>Why is it that Kyl wants this bill so badly?<<

One possible answer is that AZ business lobbies offered him something.

Another idea is that the 12 “original architects” of the bill all think it’s their baby and they are its mother. The speeches about how proud they all were of their work, and how hard they worked on it, made me almost gag.

For one thing, this bill is going to show Americans just where their representatives stand....and for some, it certainly isn’t with us!

Martinez was an ILLEGAL alien himself once upon a time!!!

Is that true? From his Senate bio: Mel Martinez has called Florida home since the age of 15 when he came to Orlando from his native Sagua la Grande, Cuba, as part of “Operation Pedro Pan,” a humanitarian program that helped Cuban children escape communist Cuba. Martinez lived with foster families who generously opened their homes to him until he was reunited with his family at age 19. This generosity of strangers has had a lasting effect on Martinez, instilling a strong sense of community and the need to give back to this country.

From Wikipedia: Martinez was born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba to Gladys V. Ruiz and Melquiades C. Martinez.[1] He came to the United States in 1962 as part of a Roman Catholic humanitarian effort called Operation Peter Pan, which brought into the U.S. more than 14,000 children. Catholic charitable groups provided Martinez a temporary home at two youth facilities. At the time Martinez was alone and spoke virtually no English. He subsequently lived with two foster families, and in 1966 was reunited with his family in Orlando.

The operation:
An American Catholic priest, Father (later Monsignor) Bryan Walsh liaised with Washington to coordinate visas for the children. Pan Am flights took the children to Miami, Florida, which, in the Operation’s jargon, was referred to as “Never-Never Land”; the children became known as the “Peter Pans.” The proposals of the operation were that the children were to be joined by their parents within a matter of months.

In 1961, the United States closed its embassy in Cuba in preparation for the Bay of Pigs invasion. In response to the invasion, Cuba reached a deal with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev to host nuclear weapons in the country, leading to the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. During the crisis, the US government cancelled flights between the two countries; this had a dramatic effect on the operation, reportedly leaving up to eight thousand children in Miami still awaiting their parents.

When it became obvious that the parents would not soon be coming to the United States, the Catholic groups collected the children from Miami camps and dispersed them among orphanages and foster families throughout the country. Some alternate routes were discovered. Parents would fly to a third country (often Mexico or Spain) from Cuba and would have to wait in limbo to obtain a visa that would allow them to travel to the United States. The United Kingdom allowed Cuban children to fly to Jamaica with British visas, then fly directly to the United States. Although Operation Pedro Pan was meant to be a clandestine program, the Cuban government discovered it, but allowed the program to continue.
______________
Looks to me like he had a Visa. Looks to me like the Catholic Church helped in the right way on this one . . .

I've also been calling Martinez and Nelson...

Don't ever assume anyone is a lost cause.....

..well, Martinez maybe...

..but Nelson loves his position of 'power', loves attention, adulation.... and has to come back to Florida eventually...:^

..I believe he will see the handwriting on the wall.

I called Alexander as well....

..I'm not a constituent now....but a transplanted Tennesseean living in Florida for 30 plus years...

....although I can claim Tennessee as my birthplace, & schooling...

... and left all my aunts, uncles and cousins there and grandparents....my roots.
It was a legitimate call :^
