Fred Thompson is set to announce that Nashville will be the home of his national campaign headquarters, WSMV is reporting.

A source close to the campaign planning tells WSMV that that Thompson planned to announce his candidacy on the steps of the historic Fall School Building Tuesday, but Thompson campaign officials deny that Tuesday's announcement is an official run for the White House.

Fred Thompson May or May Not Announce “Something” Next Week

With speculation running rampant across the Republican Party and hopes that a conservative savior will lead the party to victory in 2008, Fred Thompson is expected to announce his intentions to run next week. Note that his staff has denied the announcement will be an official entry into the race as a presidential candidate, but nevertheless, it is a one step closer.

Everything's in place for Tuesday," the source told WSMV. "There are three major events built around his announcement." But Bob Davis, the Tennessee Republican Party Chairman, and Thompson's former Chief of Staff says "There will not be an announcement Tuesday."
So it is denied by a close advisor. But, if it is the case this story is true, Thompson will run his campaign from Nashville and announce his “intentions” on the steps of the Fall School Building.

My hunch is if this story turns out to be false, he will announce "something" around the 4th of July.

Yea RonDog, I doubt he is going to announce next Tuesday.

The longer he waits the better IMO.

This is unprecedented to have so many candidates already with their hats (and sombreros) in the ring.

Thompson sitting on the sidelines and doing his comments is brilliant.

The Earlybirds were so “smart”, and some of them are getting eaten by their worms...LOL

I also hope he doesn't announce on the Fourth of July. Better to avoid that great celebration, and announce later. The later the better IMO.

From www.news2wkrn.com:
REPORTS: Fred Thompson To Announce Tuesday [NOT]

Channel 4 is reporting that Fred Thompson will announce his candidacy Tuesday, June 26 in Nashville. The announcement will be a three event rollout likely beginning at this event we mentioned this morning.

UPDATE: That’s what you get for listening to Dennis Ferrier. The text of the article on WSMV website is already morphing from an announcement of his official candidacy to an announcement of his national headquarters. Tuesday will not be the BIG DAY.

UPDATE II: It was funny watching this story change over the last 45 minutes. Every time you’d refresh the page there would be different text. Now, on there six o’clock newscast they are very artfully talking around what they reported an hour ago.

I wish I had taken some screen captures. Oh wait, I did.

From sharoncobb.blogspot.com:
Breaking--Fred Thompson To Announce His Headquarters In Nashville On Tuesday

The information is still vague, but sources close to Thompson say he will announce next week that 'The Fall School,' on the edge of downtown Nashville, will be his Presidential headquarters.

The announcement is said to come on Tuesday, June 26.

I'm still digging and will post more as I confirm this fast developing story.

UPDATE: Okay. I may not be first, but I am ACCURATE. As I reported, the announcement is as stated above, while WSMV first reported Fred would be announcing his entry into the Presidential race.

Now Drudge is linking to WSMV, and as AC over at Volunteer Voters noted, WSMV had to backtrack from this announcement being about his entry into to the race, to what I first reported accurately as to what is happening on Tuesday.

Click HERE to see what WSMV is reporting.

Thank God, can not wait to see Fred Thompson in debate, non-scripted.

I still think the actual announcement will be Monday, July 16, or some time that week.

Sunday, July 15, is the date of the next quarterly campaign finance report, required only for declared candidates.

I’ve been saying June for months. I may still turn out to be wrong, but that’s what I have in the pool.

Nor have I called any one of you Fredheads any names, like you all are so quick to do. But then I must remember, paranoids always project their faults upon others.

That's pretty funny, considering you called me an addict a week ago on a thread where I dared to supported legal online gambling on principle. Should I have considered that your cry for help?

You really do you guy a disservice, Paperdoll. Perhaps if you had spent less time dissing Fred and more time working FOR Duncan Hunter, he wouldn't be stuck at 1% and near the bottom in fundraising.

But go ahead and blame it on the media, blame Fred, blame the black helicopters if that makes you feel better...

But the report will be for April 1-June 30. He can declare July 1st, and thereafter funds go into the July 1 - Sept 30 report.

Read the first sentence. Then read the second sentence.

:)

And if anyone’s paranoid it’s these “Angelina Jolie is going to take over the world!!” people.

Okay......the story WAS about the campaign headquarters. Beautiful building by the way.

But no official announcement yet. Fred is cracking me up.

Turns out its just an announcement of his HQ’s. I’d still like him to make that speech about the cloture vote on that day. ;-)

I do find it both sad, in the sense we’ve had only candidates up till now that were either lousy choices (Rudy, McCain, Hillary) or little i.D. recognition (Hunter), and incredibly humorous that the guy that hasn’t declared officially has got the world’s media breathlessly at his feel for the announcement.

A few dozen people on both sides have already declared including Hillary and rudy, and yet Fred’s the one everyone is focused on. It’s almost like he’s the incumbent, even though there is no incumbent this year.

OK, perhaps I should have read the entire thread first. Oh well.

If he will announce it as his “presidential headquarters”, that IS sort of an announcement, isn’t it? I mean why else would you have “presidential headquarters”? President of the PTA? ;^)
