Ok, on the one hand this is a bunch of B.S., but on the other we just had my MIL deemed mentally unfit and had her committed. She didn't own a gun, but if she did we would have used this in a heartbeat to take it away from her, she was that unstable. My BIL went as far as to disable her car so she couldn't drive until we could finally get her the help she needed.
This is a terribly slippery slope, but I believe there are certainly cases where it would do a heck of a lot of good, then again I can see it being abused far too often by activist Dr's too. Maybe if they had to have a consensus of close family members also to be able to do it, that would certainly alleviate a few fears I think.

..."Each year, tens of thousands of barred individuals slip through the cracks of the system and gain access to firearms...Citation please Naomi.
..."Under this bill, based solely on a diagnosis of a psychiatrist,...
Who is most capable of diagnosing mental health issues, your hairdresser?
Way too much wrong with this piece.

I thought the wording had to do with court-decided mental illness, not just the testimony of a doctor...You have to be adjudicated by a court.

Most people wont read the text and believe whatever WND says(which is usually suspect as a rule). Sheesh! Next, you'll be saying DEBKA File is a usually unreliable source!
I suppose you wouldn't beleive an email from my wife's cousin's hairdresser's sister's neighbor's uncle about the flying white whale that his friend's barber saw, either!

But can states decide to “put people on the list”, without individual due process in a court, based on state law criteria which could include just a doctor’s recommendation that someone be put on the list?
To: Abathar
I think the key is to know your GP doctor. If your doctor is affiliated with one of these liberal groups that thinks they can limit your rights, then it is time to get a new doctor. Let the looney left be his patients, not you.

This is why when your doctor hands you that stupid government mandated survey that asks if you have guns in the house, you always answer, NO!I simply never gave it back. Intact.

Made that choice long ago.
We have guns; we don’t have medical insurance.
$5,000+/year buys a lot of high quality worked steel; lead, and brass.
Good investment, and its an incentive not to get sick or careless.

Worse:
A good reason NOT to go to the doctor in the first place.
Boy, this crap gets more like Nazi Germany every day.

Exactly, my doctor is actually an internist, he is young with 4 young boys and his father is a builder who lives and grew up in our area. He is really great, and a very strong conservative Republican.
