The Delaware House of Representatives approved a bill on Tuesday that eliminates the two-year statute of limitations for child abuse for suits for damages due to personal injuries caused by the sexual abuse of a child by an adult. Now, in Delaware, the victim of sexual abuse will have more time to sue for civil damages. The statute was two years. Under the new legislation it will be 25 years, the second longest statute of limitations in the country.
But wait! Does this new statute of limitations apply to everyone?
Durn ... I'm sure glad you asked. Turns out it doesn't! It seems that there are some very powerful private interests in Delaware that worked very hard with some state legislators to make sure that they --- or, I should say, their members --- would not be subject to the new lengthened statute of limitations. Hmmmmmm. Now just who would that be? Who would be powerful enough in a strongly Democrat state such as Delaware to get their members a pass when it comes to increasing their exposure for lawsuits that might be brought about as a result of sexually molesting a child?
Well; to be that strong in a Democrat state you might have to be a union, right? And right you are! It was a union, all right, but not just any union. It was the nation's most powerful union! Yup, you got it .... the teacher's unions!

I obviously missed this one and need to do a bit of looking into it. The DSEA (Delaware arm of the NEA) is a very powerful force in Dover.
That's only because so many of them are homosexual, and homosexuals have a tendency to recruit from the young. That's all.
This violates the equal protection clause under the US Constitution....

I lived in Dover for over 20 years, and worked in Delaware politics for all of them, so i know eactly what you are saying!!!!

As a victim of abuse, I can personally testify to the fact that kids who are abused often don’t come forward until they are older and either finally understand what was done to them or are no longer in a position to be afraid of their molester.
I was molested at age 9 and didn’t tell anyone until I was 11 or 12 out of shame and embarrassment. Does that mean that the molester should get by with what they did?

All kidding aside, you are absolutley correct — it must be something in the water of the C&D canal. However as more folks have moved south the demographics have changed drastically. Rte 1 has basically made bedroom communities for Wilmington and even Philly out of towns as far suth as Dover.
When I moved to Delaware in ‘82, Pete Dupont was in the middle of his second term as Governor, and Ruth Minner was considered a conservative (D) senator from Milford. My how times have changd.
